I gave Solomon a try last night for the first time. Was marking alot of fish all 1 to 3' off the bottom. Only had 2 bites in 2.5 hours time. Was I just there at the wrong time of the day or is there a trick to getting them to bite out there?

welcome to the site! don't feel bad about the bite, the cold snap has certainly made the last few days challenging. not that you need to go out and spend more money, but have found that cameras work really well during these times. you can literally see how the fish are reacting to your presentation. they are invaluable in letting you know to speed up, slow down, choice of lure/bait, and in some cases, even if they are on the line. was out perch fishing the last few days and on sat. in order to get them to bite i had to bang the lure off the bottom a couple of times, and slowly reel up about 3 to 4 ft while slightly twitching the line. also noticed they would scatter when i had split shot on. today however, split shot did not matter and they were biting on no movement closer to the bottom.

yeah theres some tricks, put in like 6 .5 hours lol got my nice ones right as people were packing up, them ones on the bottom are just small crappies or bigger perch, the bigger slabs ride high above the little ones, and you wont see many, and you'll probly miss as many as you catch cuz their so picky. I had just as many jigging as i did on the bobbers, but most were small ones all in all its just slow fishing out there, and dinks during the day. Id like to find the walleyes or some of the big perch. Even the big crappies arent big compared to other nearby lakes maybe 11-12 inch would be huge and avg is like 8-10 inches prob. The dnr checked us out their too the other night, said it was slow all over but im glad to see them out there doing their job and caught a decent croppy on a deadstick while he checked my licence lol. Either way ill prob get out their tonight and try it again anyone know if theyre driving on eagle or green lake yet?

They were driving out on the north end of Green on Saturday. I just used my snowmobile but a lot of people were using full size pick ups.

There were people driving 1/2 and 3/4 ton pick ups out on eagle today with plows or wheel houses out to where i was. however i only measuredabout 8 inches of good clear ice and 6-8 inches of frozen slush and packed snow. kind of iffy in my opinion but its their call i guess. at least go slow and stay on the road. fishing was really slow today only a few bites.
