Riverbend Resort

Recommended Posts

fish: I've been staying at Riverbend for the past 11 years. Was there last week and headed back again on the 17th, and again in February. I've always been satisfied that probably accounts for 11 years. Charlie and the crew from the chefs, wait people, bartenders and Adam and the ice crew will take care of you. They are out approx 6-7 miles past Pine Island and were moving houses again last Thursday when we left. They will move houses as the bite dicatates. Good luck, post when you get back. I will do the same after the 17th.

I booked a cabin with them. We are going to be using our portables. Is there anything I need to bring with us as far as cabin supplies?

No they have everything in the cabins that you would need for cooking if thats your plan. Microwaves, coffee pot and pots pans, cups glassed even dish washing soap. You may want to throw in a roll or two of paper towels other than that I can't think of anything. We don't cook in the cabin we eat at the lodge, but from the years I been going up I've noticed they are pretty well stocked up witht he essentials. When are you headed up?

Fishhuntwork: I headed up on the 17th, will fish 18th and 19th and come home on the 20th right in front of your group. Hope you have a good time. If you stop in the bar at night say hi to Gordie the bartender from Bill Turck, he is a character. You'll enjoy the friendliness of Riverbend.

Excellent resort-great people. I'm trying to get a trip together for a weekend in February but I'm digging around maybe 3 different groups of folks trying to get some commitments.

Bill--I'll likely miss you again-no way I can get a group there on a Monday but maybe the weekend before.

tripleplay: If you make it the weekend before Jan 17th, or Feb 21st I'd appreciate it you could post on Sunday night when you get back. I look for it before I head north and see what secret lure I should be using..... smile We just seem to be passing each other on those trips..

Fish...: Riverbend as most of the resorts in the area utilize the access at Wheelers Point which is maintained by Adrians resort. Its less than two blocks from Riverbend. Road pass is $8 and can be purchased at Adrians. Once you are out over Pine Island many of the resorts will then punch thier own roads to their houses off of Adrians Road. It is quite a network once you get out there. Last year we were able to drive out 19 miles (almost a full day trip LOL) As I mentioned previously I went up for the first time 11 years ago when Glenn and Pam Voitalla owned the resort and have never looked back. We make it up at least 3 times per year and some years 4-5 times. It is a a great time and the fishing is anywhere from good to just plain fantastic. Hope you have a good time.

Anyone remember when Riverbend was Gerhardt's? I do, the place has sure come a long ways too.

I remember the Gearhardts pretty well. We took a couple of big groups out with them.

There was a younger guy who was the muscle and and older guy evidently the brains or

money in the outfit. One day they were gone and a much younger and skinner Glen Voytilla

and wife Pam were there instead. The Gerhardts treated me fine but I think there were

some serious money issues that cause too many troubles.

Fished with River Bend over the weekend in one of there sleepers and found them to be clean and have everything we needed including the fish. We had 4 guys in our group and we all came home with a limits. Can't complain about that. All the saugers we caught were on the bottom and the eye's were suspended in about 15-20 feet of water. The guides also checked on us many times through out the day and if there was something we would've needed they were more then willing to get it for us. Will definetly book with them again.

walleye_jigge: How deep were you set up? Headed back a week from today, hope your bite holds until then. Any particular color better than others. thanks

I believe we were set up in about 36 feet or so. Green buckshots seemed to do the best. Also had a few eyes crush the chubby darters didn't seem to matter the color on those. All the eyes we caught were in that 14-16" range, didn't catch one slot fish at all. But a good time none the less.

Bturck, I'm heading up to River bend the same time as you. We will be in a group of four guys in our late twenties, you can't miss us! We should do a mystery shot together! "Hey Gordie whats the mystery shot today?" Gordie:"If I told you it wouldn't be a @#$*!#* mystery!"

I'm heading up Sat. with two friends. River Bend is A+ getting you on fish, and they make sure you have a great time. What I really like about LOW is you never know if you are going to finally catch the 'big one'.

Curt/Fiskey: The main reason for the problems a Garharts was when Dewy was shot by Harvey, one of the guides, while hunting and Wes Garhart was getting older they couldn't keep the place running. Gloria, Dewy wife, was devastated by the loss and their two grils were to young to help at the resort. I believe that was about the time Glen and Pam purchased the resort. All of that took place in the late 60's. The one who know the whole story is Jim Ney at Adrian's. Several of the oldtimers who have been up there also know the what took place. Sometime later Gloria married a fellow who is a plumber in Baudette, and I believe still is living in Baudette...

Hey Bill, Long time! I saw Brad about 4 months ago at the VFW when Bauer was back home on leave. Man I haven't seen you since you were my hockey coach like 15 years ago! This is Jeff Rieder by the way if you haven't figured it out yet. When I saw your post I was wondering what the chances of running into my old hockey coach up at the big pond were but I knew that you spent a good bit of time up there because Bauer told me Brad turned him on to that place. Anyway see you in a couple of days, any interest in a biggest fish contest?

Hey Jeff wow it has been a long time. Good to hear from you again. Chris talked to Brad and asked if he could borrow his flasher, he said sorry my mom is headed there with dad, so she has first dibs on it. Sorry about that. I would be interested in a big fish contest but not sure if you can trust me. LOL My wife will probably kick my butt anyway.

We will be driving up on Monday afternoon, should arrive around supper time. We will fish on Tuesday and Wednesday and leave Thursday morning. Brad took Chris and someone else up a few years ago, Brad is coming back up with me in February. Good luck see you guys Monday night. PS Need pictures of those big fish too..... smile

Bill, no worries. I am a manager at Cabela's and we always have a biggest fish/buck/turkey whatever contest going so I take pictures of all my fish on the ruler! It's a habit you form when there is money on the line. You guys should be getting in right as we are getting back from the lake so just look for us in the bar. See you on Monday.

Just booked a cabin and a day of fishing next Sat the 29th with these guys. Going to suprise the kids with a trip while Im home from down south. I was going to try a cheaper route, motel in Warroad and day house out of Arnesons. But Arnesons refused to take us for a one day deal. Their loss I guess. Looking forward to getting up there to spend some time with the wife and kids been gone to long.

Just wondering if the bar restuarant was somewhat kid freindly to get a meal?

Good luck.
