I have a LM chip in my lowrance H2OC. I believe the chips are different depending on the brand of GPS though.

If you want newer technology Garmin products have the edge right now. Wide range to pick from. I tell you a hand held with lakemaster is a great asset to the arsenal.

Each manufacturer has there own version of lakemaster so they are not interchangeable.

I have a Garmin GPS/Map 76CX a couple years old now and it has been great. Its been replaced by the 78 series so you can probably find areal good price on the 76 series. Also look into the 60 series they have been replaced with the 62 series. The older series are just as good the only difference is features. Seen a 60 series go for around $200

The 76 floats. And most are water proof.

If you do a search on HSO lot of discussion on hand helds.. I don't mind answering questions so dont let my search suggestion deter you from asking.

I purchased the new Garmin Oregon 450T this year and the Lake Mster Maps are awesome on this unit. With the color screen it makes it very easy to use. I love it and would not fish with out it.

Have an (old) expeditionC and still works really well with the broken screen. I use navionics and lakemaster chips in it...

I don't know anything about handheld GPS, but am looking for a better way to mark the hotspots this summer. I noticed Cabela's is having a sale on the Garmin Dakota 20. Does anybody have one of these? Do the lake maps have the local lakes? How easy are they to use? Any help would be appreciated.

I wish I would have know that before I dropped $300 on an H2O a couple years ago. Mine is way off. I've had people tell me to check the satellites which I have and even when I am locked into several satellites I know I am a minimum of a couple hundred feet off of my actual location. I can't afford to go buy something else right now so I'm stuck with my H2O. I would have done better just buying a decent lake map and using my depth finder.

My first H20 quit reading my lakemaster chip. After countless times calling Lowrance unsucessfully the guy i did get a hold of told me i must have written a new program onto the card!( I dont have a clue how to do that). So I bought one off a buddy who didnt use his much, and after about 20 uses it wont lock onto 1 satellite. So dont feel bad I got took twice!

Huh,

My H20 is a tad over 2yrs old, and will keep me locked in within 12' Error Position. Chip works fine. Just not a big fan of the large icons and small screen.
