I will have a truck and a porty and have no idea where this place is and where to get on the lake. If i cant i will leave stuff at home so the kids can fish. thanks

In the past i have had morning-early evening action out off sand point. Try 8-12ft. minnow with jigging rattlin spoons work well for me. Good perch with the occassional eye or pike. this area is close to chase. Good luck!

Right now most of the bay (including Sand Point) is pretty much inaccessible by truck due to 18" of snow last weekend. There are some plowed roads heading out towards First Point from the access by Cochrans marina on Railroad Avenue, which is a few blocks away from the Chase.

There will probably be more roads plowed by the time you are up here.

There is a nice break to fish directly out in front of the Chase and all down the shoreline by the city and city park. Lots of areas to fish near the Chase. The bite has been slow since the storm and cold front though.

RedRoooster,

Do you know if there are plowed areas to park on the shore? We have trucks with trailers and will unload snowmobiles this Friday. Hoping to park on the North side of the bay, but if that's not possible then how about by Cochrans or at the City Park?

Thanks!

Average--you would be able to park your trucks and unload at Cochrans or City park for sure. Ericksons landing by the Kabekona narrows has a big parking lot that should be plowed by then too, and it is farther north up the bay with direct access to both the lake and snowmobile trails.

There are more roads being opened up in Walker Bay, including one from Ericksons landing out to Sand Point so there should be more options by the weekend. Hopefully this warmer, stable weather will improve the bite too.

I was out driving around walker bay yesterday and although there are some roads they are narrow and finding a place to park or turn around are few and far between. Getting off the single lane roads are impossible without a plow. Its not pretty out there and without a sled you are not going to go to far off road.

Does it look like there's any point to come up there this weekend? I don't have a snowmobile, all I have is my truck.

Gofishleech is right, a lot of the roads are narrow however there have been people out widening existing roads and plowing new ones each day this week, so I would guess you will find a spot to park and drag your portable to a spot without being in someone's way by the weekend. Obviously you don't want to be popping any holes right on the roads or right near the roads.

Also, the snow has settled a bit since last weekend and people are starting to bore through it with 4wd pickups and making their own roads. There are slush pockets out there and still plenty of potential for getting stuck though.

Just returned and it was not an easy battle. There are some roads, but finding areas to fish off of them are difficult. Walker Bay has some slush pockets, didnt find as many over by pine pt. A snowmobile is the way to go unless you wanna haul gear a ways. There were a few guys out plowing people to spots, they were working hard. I dont know what they charge, but would be worth it after what I went through.

You are right. I couldn't get out to my house Friday eve because two houses tring to make it out kept getting stuck in the road. Roads are there, but single lane only and high birms. If you get someone to plow, please give them something for their time. I asked a guy to plow a spot for me and gave him $10. He said alot of guys don't offer to pay. It's a heck of alot easier to pay someone, then to spend 1/2 a day shoveling!

Yeah it was bad out there over the weekend, much worse than I expected as far as getting around with a truck. When I got to my fish house Friday night someone had plowed a spot just off of my road for their wheeled houses and left a berm of snow across the road, there was enough snow blowing around that it drifted up behind the berm all the way to my house. Luckily I was able to bore through it in 4wd and beat down a path without getting stuck.

The fishing at my location was very slow again, I caught one 23" walleye Saturday morning and a few real small perch and walleyes.

My daughter and her friends were fishing out by Pine Point last night and she brought home 7 really nice jumbo perch (for me to clean).

It sounds like random slush pockets are still prevalent throughout Walker Bay and are not improving, if anything, getting worse.
