Carnage Weekend

Ice Shack Baby

Recommended Posts

Boy what a New Years weekend. We have have eight houses out in our group in Mille Lacs and hopefully we worked all of the bugs out of our equipment.

3 generators went down. (1 person bought a new one)

2 heaters down (I bought a new one)

1 vehicle down (no cost but was frozen up)

1 satelites system down.

Everyone is safe though.

Any person or group can top that?

I was there (disabled vehicle guy), and it got to the point all one could do was laugh about it and say "WTH". From the pouring rain on Thursday and trying to block and bank, to the blizard-like conditions leaving the bar News Years Eve, to everything breaking down, it was a case of extremes. Of all our years of ice fishing up there, it was like we were first-timers. I am hoping we got all the bugs worked out for the year (knock on wood). The good part, we had a great time as always, and fish were caught. oh, and nobody got hurt (except for some pocket books)....

I couldn't compete either, sort of. Truck was running, gear all packed, saying goodbye to the wife and kids, buddy was going up early to have the house pulled and set up by the time got there.... He called just as the truck was going into gear and said a bad crack formed and broke the main road up so the house was stuck on land. Put truck back, rented hot tub time machine and had a few at home!

Yes - on the North end. We towed it in, got it thawed out, and then led the caravan in the blizzard back out to the shacks Friday night.

Rule 2.8.11a, when the wind changes direction 180 degrees, probably should turn your vehicle around 180 degrees as well laugh

Invited the brother inlaw from Wisc.

Spent a hour getting sled trailer out of snow bank in back yard.

Discovered sled wont run. Arctic Cat sediment tubes crack off just driving around the yard. Turn to powder in my hand. Eaten up by alcohol. Buy new ones. No help. Main jets have stuff in em or old/new gas mix is keeping it from running well.

Abort sled idea. Change plans to portable fishing out of pickup truck.

Wed morning, set hook on big fish, knot fails.

Thurs morning land nice 22" and release it. Rains all day Thurs. Portable not waterproof. Dripping on us. Rig up tarp to keep us dry. Plug mouse hole in portable with banana peel to keep cold out. Getting nervous with pickup on 12" of ice and 1" warm rain on top of it. Standing water in roads.

Thurs nite, set hook on big fish, line snaps off at bobber.

Drive back to shore with our boots off. White knuckle it south on 169 til we get to a gas station becuase one head light is out on the truck and its snowing.

Friday, portable is frozen like a wet blanket. Bring it inside to thaw and dry. We'll try to fix the sled carbs, put new lines on the sticks and try it again this week.

FYI, we fished two breaks off of Twin Pines roads and they both held fish.
