Love my brand new lazer mag. Way lighter than the old Jiffy, and runs better than the Jiffy did on day one.

Having owned and used probably the 2 lightest augers on the Market, the Nils and the Solo, I would without a doubt go with the StrikeMaster Solo.

It is about 23#'s and is an ice cutting machine. Another thing I really like from the Solo over the Nils is the Solo leaves the hole much cleaner.

Also, how can any company beat StrikeMaster's customer service?

I bought an eskimo barracuda 8" hand aquger and the adapter so I could hook up to my 18V dewalt XRP drill and could not be happier. It cuts through the ice like butter with no gas smell and a lot less noise and very light love it.

Harvey will the solo open old holes without a problem ? thanks

To be very honest, I have opened only a couple of holes in a house that were only refroze maybe 3-4 inches and that went pretty good.

Hopefully another can chime in that reopens numerous holes.

if your looking for a light auger i would recommend the mag 2000 if they still make them. they are made by strikemaster and it weighs a lot less than my own 8 inch jiffy legend lighting. however both augers i have used cut like a champ and have never had an issue with either.

After being hesitant to reopen holes with my brand new solo last year I tried it out after a few outings of chiseling. I have the Laser 8" bit and it cut very nice. It seemed to cut through the refrozen holes much smoother than my old chipper style bit. Reopened over 100 holes easily with it since I first tried it last year. From fresh holes, refroze 2", to refroze 12" it cut sweet! I couldn't be happier with it. This is one tough auger, I buried my wheeler last week in some very suprising slush and punched my auger through the ice and hooked the winch up to it (not recommended), but didn't have any other choice that late in the night. It came out almost unharmed except a slight bend in the auger fluting. Didn't harm performance of it at all though as it still rips through the ice. Haven't ran into any service issues with it yet but I'm confident if or when something does arise StrikeMaster will take care of me right.

Reopening holes is not the greatest for any auger, but I did it this past week on my trip up north and it seem to work ok for my Solo.

You won't go wrong with a Strikemaster Solo!

Here is a little story about what happen to me up north this past week with mine.

Was up on a week long fishing trip and in the middle of it my handle on my month old Solo broke midway through a hole... Luckily I own a Strikemaster!! I called their A+ customer service department while I was still on the lake and they shipped out a new handle that same day! I got it the next day, and was back in business!

Thanks Strikemaster!

Don't all of the Strikemaster augers come with a Solo engine? Except the Micro-Lite II?

You are correct Reid. I should have said my Lazer with the Solo motor.

Heck, some days I even confuse myself.

I would say that the solo augers are very light. I have the lazer mag 2.5 hp and have no problem with it. I belive it weighs in at 24 lbs. The strike lite is very light also plus that is a 4 stroke.

if you want to reopen holes i would still go with a chipper blade, i have not had much luck with my lazer reopening holes
