Eagle Lake Report - Plymouth/Maple Grove

Recommended Posts

Tried all over the lake for Northerns and came up empty handed. To add injury to insult went out two days in a row and got NOTHING!!! Lot's of guys pulling crappies out of the 30-ft hole on the South End but no evidence of Northern Pike activity. A anybody catching northern pike out there?

Using rattle reels for dead sticking with bare hooks, small spinner and medium sucker minnows. The other rod was jigging with a sucker head and a small silver/green or silver orange little Cleo. Tried several places from the public fishing pier, to Pike Creek Channel all the way to the south of the lake from 5ft - 11Ft.

One guy told me we were fishing the wrong end of the lake and should go up t the North end....maybe next weekend.

There was nothing wrong with the lake locations, but I would fish a little deeper. Try 10 to 18 feet. Use tip ups/rattle reels with maybe some shiners next time.

Yes, there is a good amount of vehicle traffic out there now. I was out tonight and had about 14" of clear ice and about 5" of white ice on top.

Folks driving all over the lake. I parked on the ice on the north landing and walked across the lake because I like to get my blood going before I sit there for several hours. I tried for pike deeper this time 12-17 FOW and still came up empry handed. It was a great day considering I thought I was gonna freeze. No wind and Sunshine made for a really nice day on the lake. I was using sucker minnows again...netx time I'm gonna try to get my hands on some shiners. Anybody know where to get silver shiners around the metro area?

I had a few flags with shiners but no fish on... they did have some nice puncture wounds and tears in them. i believe johnson's off of bass lake road has shiners. im not 100% sure on that though. his minnows die pretty quick anyway. I normally get bait from toro in anoka on coon rapids blvd or anoka bait and tackle on hgwy 10. havent found many good bait stores around maple grove.

my favorite is definitely vados in spring lake park. Great bait and the guys that work there actually know what they're talking about and can put you on fish. I try to throw as much business their way as I can

Ditto for Vados. I've gone there all my life and they by far have the best selection of bait, and the two owners as well as other staff are very helpful.

I usually have pretty good luck on Eagle. Directly across from the boat launch there is a little creek that feeds into the lake. Usually just to the right sight of the creek (as your looking at it from the launch) in about 10-12 fow.

There's also a bait shop on bass lake road. Maybe 10 minutes from the launch at Eagle.

I can't think of the name of the bait shop, but it on the north side of bass lake road in a little strip mall. Kind of by fernbrook avenue if memory serves me.
