The Local Bait Shop(s)

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to see if this seems to be the case with anyone else in the area. When I buy a half dozen shiners (which are 8 bucks), thats exactly what I get..... They actually count them one by one and actually had to take one back out of the bucket. I spend a lot of money at this store. I buy bait from local shops when I go north and there same 1/2 dozen is usually around 2 scoops. Not saying the local bait shop(s) should do the same but its ridiculous if you ask me. Can anybody recommend any bait stores in the area? Does Runnings in Hutchinson have bait (shiners)? Thanks

i can almost guess where that was. today i went to the local store for me. wanted 6 sucker minnows should have watched the worker. get out to the lake they where shiners great they cost more but they all died 1 hour later as all their bait does. runnings does have bait but its spendy and there afraid to give a extra minnow too. thought it was just me any other good places to get bait any one?

Nuebarths just outside of Glencoe seems to have good bait. I have not gotten the greatest of service there but I think it is just me, everyone else I talk to has good luck there.

I have bought bait at Runnings since they have gotten it in. I have never had an issue with their bait. always seems like i get a little extra usually. I have never bought shiners or suckers though, and I do know the store itself also gets charged per shiner or sucker by the bait company out of new ulm. Maybe thats why they sell u exact amounts on bigger bait. I just know that it has never seemed like they were stingy with there fathead or crappie minnows. And the girl selling it to me is pretty darn cute too!

Try the BP station in Dassel. Not a big store by any means but I've had good luck with their bait.

Thats weird, because I always have good luck with them(the bait shop). Always way more than enough fatheads, always seem to get an extra shiner or two, and rarely have them die before it's their 'time'.

I, personally, am not a fan of the Runnings' fatheads. I don't seem to get as many, they just aren't as big, and they seem to die on me. Also, they only sell fatheads, crappie minnows and suckers. No shiners.

I like Joe's, but it's a bit out of the way if i'm just heading to Emily, Campbell or Todd to go fishing.

Runnings only has crappies, and fatheads. I like them a lot and sometimes I get more then I ask for.

Was at outpost bought bait nite before we wanted to do some tip ups and spearing so we bought 1 Sucker decoy and 1 Dozen sucker minnows they all died when I checked them in the morning. Brought them back that morning and they siad nothing they could do not even a discount on next bait purchase. Woman told me that no one else has problems with there bait.

Outpost Suckers... better count to make sure you have a dozen and I agree you are lucky to have 12 swimming when you get to the lake.

I haven't been in the new lake ripley store since they finished it but quantities are usually good.

I stopped in at Neubarth's for the first time Friday. It was on my home from work, and I needed some fatheads for the weekend. Nice little place, and good quantity to the 'scoop'. They lasted the night in the bag I bought them in, not one dead, and they were all lively yesterday while fishing.

Joe's in Howard Lake is top notch! I try and give Habisch Outdoors (just south of Winsted) some business too! Habisch is a good guy to drop in and chat with. His prices aren't terrible either!

It's like 10-6 Tue-Fri. 9-3 on Sat. I'll be going there tomorrow for bait again. I'll correct my post if I'm wrong. I finally used all the minnows I got from him earlier in the year. Only had one die, in nearly 2 weeks, a shiner that had been hooked and spent 3 hours on my line.

Just got home from Habisch Outdoors. He's currently out of shiners, but that wasn't a big deal to me(today). The hours I posted are correct. Unless it's inconvenient for me, he'll be getting most of my bait business from now on.

I too stop at Habisch. I like chatting with the guy. I also stop in at Joes in Howard lake and at Carquest in Norwood Young America. IMO all three are good places, have good prices, Good people, and sell bait that lives at a decent price. I'd recomend any of these three to any one. Can't say the same for the outpost in Hutchinson or Cabin Fever in Victoria. Had same experiance and previously mentioned poster on more than one occation. Also prices are a bit jacked up imo.

I defended the Outpost previously, but a couple bad batches of fatheads that were speckled and died, and one day I got what looked more like crappie minnows than fatheads. I haven't been back there since. Although I live in Hutch, my parents live in Winsted, and my son goes to HLWW school, so I drive by Habisch twice a day. I trust his minnows to last until Sat morning if I pick them up on Fri evening or even Thurs. Heck, I had some last for weeks and I only changed the water once.

Just kind of saw this post late but yea the outpost has terible service and bad bait joes in howard lake and habisch as well as carquest are all great places. I wil also defend cabin fever in victoria if a guy goes that way to fish. Great people at cabin fever and its a metro area so your going to pay metro prices get over it.
