Farm Ponds or sloughs

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of any good farm ponds or sloughs that are good for catching panfish or perch?

I am looking at taking my 7 year old son out in the next few weeks. Don't care about size but want to keep him busy.

Thanks.

Not sure how far you are willing to drive, but lake wilson is usually pretty good for any bite, sometimes you even can get on a good size bite. Otherwise the only help I can really get you is south of that for a constant steady panfish bite, and that would be for perch galore on a little lake by Fulda.

I would seriously consider West Twin by Ruthton for perch. It's pretty close to you and you are going to have good action from what I have been hearing and may even end up with some keepers.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure if Split Rock in Ihlen produces anything in the summer or winter.

I fished West Twin a couple years ago and we had non-stop action or really little perch but wasn't sure if that was still the case.

I checked the DNR Lake Finder and it said it was FULL of crappies and stocked with perch! So that got me curious!! Worth checking out maybe.... Someone........ http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/lakefind/showreport.html?downum=59000100

With Split Rock keep in mind there was a significant winterkill (2008) after that survey was done. I'm not a hardwater guy so I'm not sure how the ice fishing's been since then, but there was a good early fall bite of nice perch and some crappies last year.

West Twin was going good this fall with decent perch. LOTS of people fishing. I think that would be a good bet and not too far from Pipestone.
