Hunters closing roads

Stringerless!

Recommended Posts

Website says roads closed due to flooding and rain till a cooldown. Their map only shows a few outlined in yellow that are closed but maybe it has not been updated when I looked. Time for plan B.

Now they are allowing travel to private houses. Roads are under water and the speed limit is 5 mph to prevent further damage. Check their website or call ahead if you have plans there.

I called tonight and they said they should be open in the morning. I am heading up in morning so I hope that is the case.

I was on Hunters roads today, lots of water when I left the lake. Always a little eerie driving in lots of water and being able to see through the veins in the road. Makes it look like it is busting up, even though it is not. They will be fine after the cold.

I know what you are talking about Bartman. I remember a long time ago going out of a resort on the west side and it was a single lane road that must have been plowed with a v plow. Came up to an area that was at least a football field long ,just black water with chunks of snow floating in it. For all we knew it was open water but like young fools we just gunned it ! Water was up to the floorboards in the jeep !

Brought home three keeper walleye's, caught about 10. Lost one pig walleye and another one at the hole (couldn't get his head started up the hole and came off)

Was fishing near the boot flat. Macho minnow seemed to be the best. Caught one on a lindy rattlin flyer. Only had one bite on the deadstick all day.

Also caught one pesky Tullibee.

Thats classic Mille Lacs Lake ice fishing right there grin

In 2 days we prob caught about 10. Only 2 keepers the rest were cigars. We were in protables and tried to stay mobile. But the rain and then cold put a damper on that.

We were at Appeldoorns on 12/28 and 12/29 in one of their houses and did alright. We brought home 24 perch that were between 10 to 13" with most in the 11" range. The only walleyes we caught were 2 that were 7" long, the walleyes seemed to be elsewhere. We were in 20' on 2 mile gravel, had 3 young ones with so we didn't go out looking for the walleyes like we normally do, just sat in the nice comfy house. The perch came through in waves with a half hour or more between schools. Used a combination of spoons and minnow heads and set lines, both worked well. If you are able to just keep mobile and you should do well.
