I'm just curious what everybody's thoughts are on fishing next to perms. Have my house on big c and was pretty much all alone. Hadn't been out for a few days and i get there and have to zig zag my way to the house. After getn setup i could see that people had fished less than 10ft away as well as alot of other holes and houses.I know its a public lake but theres alot of water out there and kinda makes a person a little upset at how people are. So now my house is completely surrounded and will try and move after the storm.

I know folks can't set up shelters within 10 feet of each other but it doesn't prohibit hole hoppers from setting up shop. regardless, that's just bad form drilling holes right next to a house. talk about flood city. even if a perm is out on a honey hole that I would like to fish, just suck it up and move on. I'm also not a fan of the folks who like to drill holes in the ice roads...

I guess I just like my space. <10 ft, no way. But 20 feet, maybe.

Why does dropping a perm on a site declare property ownership? Law says ten feet. How do you know your perm isn't on my portables previous site that's recorded in my GPS ?

Reelfever, that is why I have more than one location on my GPS. I have gone out many times to find someone is sitting on my GPS spot, as Deadhead said suck it up and go to one of your other spots, that one is not the only spot on the lake where the fish are biting. People keep whinning about someone fishing to close, you are never going to get those morons to stop doing it. It's just like throwing a marker in the summer, every boat on the lake has to come and check it out and half the boats will fish right next to it. That,s why I paint my markers black so that no one can see them, Tough to do that with a fish house so I will deal with it.

i once found it amazing how many morons i meet on the lake in a single year. its no longer surprising to meet people with no etiquette or even a clue. its just the way it is. could be worst, could be at home insted of at the lake.

I guess my post needs some clarification. If I fish a spot on tues. with sucess, and return on fri, and there's a perm there, I need to switch areas?

it depends on the spot. some spots, are spot-on-spot fish are focasing on a single patch of weed or a particular short access route to shallow water. fish like easy meals and will exert as little effort as possible at times. other spots usually depending on the lake fish seem to cruz weeds and breaks. if im on a lake that fish cruz i will most deffinetly post up away from others. somtimes its nessecarry to get close to the spot-on-spot to have success. either way i would prefer to fish away from the rest of the people. each lake has many spots which fish use and can be caught. we should not be afraid of trying new things, thats one way knowledge is obtained.

Had someone drill a hole on the road we made to my brothers house, naturally started flooding especially after the snow. Can't people move off the trails a little with the portables. We set my father-in-law's house in a spot where the guy living on the hill said in 19 years he hadn't seen a house-we're catching fish and having a blast-trying somewhere new isn't all bad.

This one can be tough. I give people all the room in the world out there. But I can see how guys with portables, or bucket fisherman can get frustrated with the permanents setting up shop. There are times where 10 feet to the left or right does not work.

You go out to fish a specific spot on spot and guess what, an empty permanent is right on the drop-off. Obviously the permanent wants to set up on the best spot possible, but maybe you are in the way of the guys that are actually fishing.

You would think you could find plenty of room to fish out there. It is never acceptable for someone to come within 10 feet of your shack. People also need to be cognizant of permy owners needing parking area.

I bet the more times the bucket guys sees an empty shack, the closer they will keep getting. Just be glad they are not using it as a bathroom wind break....had that happen before.

Does a GPS location give you ownership to a spot? It's not just people having permanents that get upset when people setup right next to them. I had some [PoorWordUsage] walking around on the lake with a GPS early last winter and he ended up cutting holes and setting up about 10 ft from my portable. His reasoning for setting up there was because he caught some perch there the weekend before and marked it on his GPS. I think 10 ft is a ridiculous number. I don't like being within 30 yards of someone, unless it is a friend of mine.

I just thought about it, 10 feet is pretty darn close, I hope people are exaggerating. I could darn near reach out and grab someone 10 feet away.

10 feet away is being within a cars distance. that is way too close.

10 yards is pretty darn close....

I know this becomes an issue in any given winter, but I try to exercise a little more patience in a year where we have this much snow and fewer places for anyone to get out. The community holes are just going to be crowded. Not that this applies to me this year since I've only been out once and the outlook isn't too good for fishing until some of the snow goes away.

I just got back from checking out my favorite lake ---and---unless a miracle happens I think I'm done fishing the lake for this winter. The slush is just unbelievable. I can see where someone on a snowmobile was probably lucky getting back off the lake. Really makes me sad because it started out as a pretty good year for me. Sooooooo have to find another lake I guess that has better conditions

Guys, I am new to this but have a question for proper fishing courtesy! WE own the property that we pay for (LAND). But if we put a perm on an open body of water, just because it's frozen and a person hasn't occupied the perm in 3 of the last 5 times I have been out, does that give him "Ownership"? I am not being sarcastic, I am being realistic. I don't know the laws as well as I should, but am asking for the right education.

Nobody has ownership over any spot on a lake but a little respect and common courtesy (sp?) would be nice. There are lots of spots on a lake to fish. If someone has a permanant house on a spot that just saves that spot is all. But dont set up 10 feet away that is just wrong. I would say personally that i would not set up within 30 yards of someone unless i know them.

To me, it is no different than trolling a drop off and having someone anchor their boat on top of where I am getting my fish. Or I might have picked fish up the day before on that spot. I am going to be trolling around the anchored boat; he doesn't have any more right to be there than me.

I don't like fishing in crowds any more than anyone else, but with the limited access from deep snow, we only have so many places to go. The mid lake stuff is tough to get to.
