Ol Leechbait is back

Recommended Posts

Not that I went anywhere but I've been taking care of some personal business and haven't made it out on the lake until this evening, WOW! It's almost January and I finally made it fishing! No big trip, just a walk past my brothers spear house out on Snyder lake for some searching.

I drilled a group of holes before dark, probably 10 or so holes ranging from 18 to 27 feet. Spent about 5 minutes at each hole and didn't have much luck until I got to the last hole in 24 feet of water. I started to mark some fish and had a few nippers but no takers on a demon and a minnow, I switched to a red Genz worm with a couple of waxies and immediately caught my first fish of the year, no whopper but a 9" crappie isn't too bad. I caught 5 more about the same size or smaller and dropped a few at the hole and the school moved on. By then my hands were cold,(I know right, wuss)so I was content with what I caught and released and walked back to the house. So most likely I will be getting my house out here and skipping out on South Twin for now, I haven't even heard any reports lately, everyone is pretty tight lipped around this area, lol. This storm may shut me down for the weekend but we'll see!! Good luck out there everyone!

Leechbait:

Tried to PM u but it says you won't accept PM's. Peter is coming up from Florida in a week, staying at my place before they head up to Canada after the big Greenbacks on the Red. Wanted to talk to you about a "swamp" up in your neck of the woods we bumped into snowmobiling this week, not very big, had one portable on it, went over and talked to the guys and they opened up their cooler.....full of monster slab black crappies!

mnrhino, Peter knows my cell #, give me a call! I know all kinds of swamps back there with slab crappies in them. I was supposed to go with them guys to Lake Winnipeg, but due to some business on the homefront I had to back out. I'd be glad to be of assistance!

Noah will be down for a couple days and we'll be out chasing some pannies, it'd be nice to fish with you while I'm down. You can then speak with mnrhino in person cause he'll be with us also. I'll shoot you an email.

I can go both ways spin. If people give respect to those who make a quality, informative post, that's good. But when you repeatedly hear about the lack of respect given to those who do share their secrets, I can't blame them for their lack of information. Some people rely on their skills to put food on the table. Look at some of the other posts on this DL site - you see it all of the time and the complaints come from those that have given good information in the past. Happy New Year.

These guys are talking about fishing little sloughs. I can't even imagine how fast their little honey hole would get fished out if they even mentioned what road they took to get to it, let alone gave out directions. The reason these guys catch fish is because they get off their butt and search for them.

On another note, you can spell out the full word on this forum since there isn't a restriction on the number of characters you can use per post. You'll probably get more respect from the users of this forum too.

right on ray. I mena come on spinner I am not gonna pick on you here but everyone else that does the same thing. Where are they bitting, how deep, what color, GPS coordinates hahaha. I mean if you want to get people talking post some of the hotspots you have been fishing. And them watch them fill up with people. You say you have been a long time viewer but just started popsting what took you so long to psot?

It is a site to share tips and reports, what lake and where to fish on it isn't realy shared on any website's I know of. Leech and Ray are buddies I know personally so we don't need to talk about what lake to fish cause we know what lake we're talking about. We are free to post what we like within the rules of the site. There's plenty of valuable info here on the site but we won't draw you an X on a map.

Ray, look forward to meeting you. And of course, learning a few new tricks laugh !! Thanks eyedawg! I will also second Ray's post. This site is a wealth of information and knowledge and users can share as much or as little information as they want to. I don't frown upon people sharing what people might think of as "too much" information, and I certainly don't frown upon peoples vague reports.

On another note, I didn't get my house out on the lake Thursday before the blizzard hit, now we have some serious drifts to contend with, which is a pain. Before the storms, I saw quite a few trucks on South Twin, but nobody was chirping on how well the bite was. I talked to one of the guys at Pinehurst and he said it sounded pretty slow out there.

Leech,

What's the snow report over there? I'm guessing the lakes are a mess? We are heading up to Round on Thursday for the weekend. Might try Many Point or Little Bemidji as well. Guys are wondering if their 4-wheelers are a waste of time or not. I'm guessing yes, but i haven't been up there since first ice. Thanks!

I'm thinking that they might be a waste of time and effort to trailer or to load up. The drifts at the landings are horrible after this weekend, a lot of shoreline flooding and some huge drifts are making travel a pain in the behind.

I'll get a better idea on how things are during this upcoming week and I will update for sure.

SRG: I have been viewing posts in this forum (and PR, Leech, etc.) for years. If you look at some of the threads, they go back years. I print out posted reports from the areas I fish in Minnesota for around the times I go there, and have several years worth of good info on what to try, when to try it, where to try, and apply that to those and neighboring waters. You can even guess some of the "honey holes" if you pay attention. Like everything in life worth having, it is worth putting in the time and effort to achieve it. I've hunted elk here in Montana for 33 years. Took 3 elk in the first 18 years , probably all by accident. But I studied what I did on those successful hunts, and actually listened to others describe their successful hunts. I now have taken elk 13 years in a row on public land. My friends who I hunt with know where I go and how I find them. I will share my techniques with anyone on how I find them, but not where I go to find them. I don't need the company (and I don't want to get shot!)

I made it out on Tulaby today and yesterday with a F150. Made it all the way across to my spear house with no problems. Few guys with wheelers seemed to be getting around fine too. Not sure on the other local lakes though.

Thanks for the update. I also called Tamarac Resort and he said that the snow and slush is VERY bad on shore, but once you get out things are ok at best. Sounds about just like your report Eyeslayer.

Thanks for the update Eyeslayer, how thick is the ice out there on Tulaby?

Easily over a foot. Took sleds on White Earth today and found some places with only 7 inches.

Looks like Tuesday will be the day, I shot him an email with the details and I'll call him to remind him. Ray, make sure to right down my cell and call me Monday afternoon so we can make arrangements to meet up on Tuesday for a day of fishing. Should be a bunch of guys out there for the day.
