Lindy Darter question Jonny P?

Heading up to Red on Sunday. Than up to LOTW. I was just wondering what others think is the best way to use a lindy darter. Tip with a minnow head or not? How do you have the best luck with the Lindy? Thanks for any input you can add.

No bait at all. A TON of research and devolpment was put into the Lindy Darter to get it to swim perfectly as is. I heard horror stories from the field testers about moving the rattle chamber back and forth 1/64 of an inch to get it perfect. If you tip the Lindy Darter with bait it kills the action that catches fish. First thing anybody that gets one should do is watch it swim it around the bottom of the hole to get a feel for how the lure swims.

The main difference is the Lindy darter has a rattle chamber and the chubby darter does not. The size ranges a little differently as well. Also the price the lindy darters are much cheaper.

Rattles is the first big difference and I feel they are key especially in stained water. Look at the hooks but not to close as they will get ya. Now set your eyes on the color patterns and holographic finish of the Lindy Darter. I feel they not only look realistic but also define the outline and profile of the bait, not to mention the shine of them bad boys; they glitter like diamonds. The Lindy Darter was a stained water fishermans dream.

Here is my line up for Upper Red.

Now I mess with that alot.

When it is dark and dreary or the water is cloudy I bust out the 2" size or even the 2 3/4". Now if it is clear and or I may have a crappie running around or those tell tale high blips on the Marcum I run smaller with the 2". Perch fishing I use the 1 1/3"

As for pike the 2 3/4" basicaly ticks them off, that thing rattles like no other. Actaully I was on the Lake of the Woods and an old buddy was running the 2 3/4" Lindy Darter 20 feet away and I could hear it coming through the water column in my portable as he was ripping it. Tell my that doesn't wake up ol sleepy walleye.

Thanks Jonny. Maybe I'll see you on Sun. We have a 6 man and 2 man shack. Should be under the name of Nesteby. I'll be in the 2 man. That will be the Marcom shack. Love those things.

I see that on the bookings right below the note to put eight hungry keeper fish under that shack. smile

As usual Jonny is right on with his info. smile

We did very well with both the 1 3/4" and 2" sizes our last trip up to url a couple of weeks ago. The redtail color was especially effective for us then. I can definitely see that the 2 3/4" Lindy Darter would be a great pike bait.

The short pounding stroke shown in the Lindy video Jonny posted was the most reliable trigger for us. Once we stopped pounding it and held the bait still they'd just crush it.

Good Luck!
