Hummingbird ICE 55

Recommended Posts

Having some issues with my ice 55. Worked for about 1 hr then quit reading bottom & marking fish!!!!!!!! God thing I had my trusty LX 5 for my wife & my buddy an extra Vex FL-18 for me. Called hummingbird in Uufala, AL & they were closed for holidays. Imagine that!!!! Got ahold of csr this am & told her my my situation & she said I could send it to Eufala, AL in a shoe box or whatever!! So I told her better yet. I will take the Ice 55 back & get a vex or marcum. I also measured the hummer & its 9in should fit down a 10 in hole!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't put too much trust in a Bird. I have a buddy who will NEVER own anything they make again! Customer service has something to be desired.

I have an Ice 45 Bird and love it!! I also have a Marcum Lx3. Had Vexilars and hate them. In my opinion the bird is the best and most easyist to use.

Love my bird! It plays nice with both Vex's and Marc's and you can't beat the bigger screen to stare at for those long days on the ice. Much easier on the eyes and the dual cone beam and adjustable zoom standard on the base model.

As far as the customer service-what do you expect them to do? Give every Tom, Richard and Harry who makes a phone call a voucher to go get a free one at a store? Come on! ! I've heard they send a new one out as soon as they receive yours and fix it and then sell it as a reconditioned unit for a discount. Seems very reasonable. I hope I never have to find out first hand but they are a business and have to watch their bottom line too. I'm looking at buying a 55 and keeping my 35 for friends/relatives.

I have a Hummingbird 35 that I love. I have used it tons over the last two years. Fished in a house with a Marcum and a Vex this weekend and they all do the same thing well...Mark fish. The reason I bought the Hummingbird is because for less than $300 I got adjustable zoom and dual frequency. You can't get that with the low end marcums or Vex. Got to love people who have such strong opinions because they got a buddy who......

My transducer came unplugged on the back of my 55 this year and it did the same thing as yours, I can't blame Humminbird for that problem. I love mine! and my vex too.

I didn't say I don't like what is different about a Bird compared to Vex or Marcum. From what I know, they may be the latest but I'm not convinced on the greatest yet. Keep markin' fish and running it through it's paces. I'm watching and listening for the results. I'm in the market for another flasher. Not a bird if they're gonna refuse to table all the issues. Yes, they have issues. All have, even Marcum. The difference is who is willing to address the problem in a timely manner and with an open mind to what the customers concerns are. See ya on the ice. FISH ON!!

You think you are having problems with bird try getting something taken care of by marcum. Sent mine in once and took 3 weeks to get it back. I now have a ice 55 and best thing i ever switched to. Had minor issues with it last year with the zoom, called them they gave RA# i sent it in and had brand new unit back within four days. Dont think that is bad customer service in my opinion. Every product has issues at times, just what they do with it and having a new unit in couple days compared to three weeks - kinda speaks for itself.

Just got off phone with hummingbird & they are sendind out a brand new ICE 55 overnight by FED-EX!! I really had high expectations for the 55 last week on my first trip to LOTW. Wife fished with LX5 & grandson with buddies Vex 18. Would like to add marcum fishes 3 ft apart from 18 with no problem if you take a minute & set IR on both units!!!!!!!!! Both LX 5 & FL 18 are awesome units & also had a brand new vex 20 in our group which does a great job. I am hoping this 55 works as good as what I think it will when our group of 20 go back to LOTW on jan 14th for 9 days. If anyone @ hummingbird reads this post I appreciate the service. Thank you Chewy

I bought an ICE35 last year and only used it 5 times so far. I love the flasher, only problem I have is when I can see my bait on it, it will show up bright green for 10 seconds, then disapears. then shows up 10 seconds, then nothing. I know its not the minnow swimmimg out of range cause it happens with a jig and minnow head also. Is this normal, or an issue with the flasher?

The only problem that you have is your chord came unplugged in the back of the unit. It happens to mine once in a while. That is the only thing I dont like about my 45. I fished next to two vexilar fl-8s and a marcum lx-1 and they were fighting interference all day with each other. No problems with mine. And I dont care what anyone says, their customer service is top-notch.

The cord was not unpluged from back of unit!!!!!!!! And if it was explain to me how the LCD depth reading was reading perfect. I worked on this unit for 3 days trying to get it to work. 10 4 Cleaned bottom of puck & also no current 12 miles out from pine island in 36 ft of water, so my 3/8 oz buckshot was below puck!! And puck was at least 4 in under ice.

From what I have seem im the last few years is that my Ice55 plays very nicely with other units. You may have already tried to adjust the noise out but if not give it a try.

If I have an issue with a MarCum, it takes a few hits on the noise level and its good to go.

Humminbird is sure good with sending out new units too.

Did you have the stupid support cable and foam bobber on the thing?

[PoorWordUsage] slot machine- we've each played with the noise settings and also changed the beams- and sometimes we cant stop the interferance- has anyone else had this problem? if so how can you fix it?

i guess i will use better language this time

i have a ice35 and this is the 3rd year of using it, and its a very nice unit when your not fighting the interferrance-- the big display, zoom and deal beam are really nice on a low cost unit. however it has a real problem when fishing around other birds- a buddy of mine has a 45 and there is times we cannot fish anywhere near each other- we get big one inch blobs spinning around like a slot machine- we've each played with the noise settings and also changed the beams- and sometimes we cant stop the interferance- has anyone else had this problem? if so how can you fix it?

What I am saying is if you installed the unit just like they said to do unto it. Take the support cable and all that stuff and throw it in the garbage. You dont need that or the foam bobber that holds the transducer out of the water. I had the same problem when I bought mine. THe support cable is only there to get around patent issues. The transducer wasnt self leveling itself with all that junk on there.

You get rid of the support cable and the foam and throw the transducer in and it will level itself perfect.

That's true and I had the same issue with the float when I first used my ICE-45. I Just started using the Humingbird unit this season and I am very impressed with it. So far, I have fished with various model Vexilar's, a Marcum LX-3 and LX-5. We have not had any issues getting them to play togather. If we did have issues it helped to completly shut the other unit off and turn it on again, this cleared all the problems. Some of the features seam simple but are extremly helpful. I really like the dial and display for the interference rejection The Hummingbird is a great unit.

Heading back up to Lotw on friday morning jan 14th for 9 days. I installed new powerhead this weekend on ice 55. Going to try get out tuesday on local lake to see if powerhead took care of problem. In our group going to LOTW we have 2 ice 55s & 1 45 & 1 marcum LX 5 & numerous vex 18s 20s &a vex 22. It is always interesting to see how these units work & play with each other!!

I was wondering how the Hum's play with each other. My buddy just!! (tonight) bought a 35. So when we head up (1.5wks), we will have a Vex, 2 Lowrances and now the Bird.

Hope they play well with others..

I will add one thing and that is turn on each unit in sequence. The 2 folks farthest away from each other should turn there units on and get them working togather. Then the third guy turns his on and adjusts the Interference Reduction so the 3 are working nicely. And so on and so forth. 4 units in a house is doable but tricky if you want absolute zero interferance. Having an adjustable cone really helps when using multiple units.
