Best place to get glass for rear topper window

As luck would have it, things werent quite packed all the way in tonight when we left my sisters place.

I slammed the tailgate, slammed the topper lid and glass everywhere....

OOOPS. One item was about 5 mm to far back and the window caught a corner just perfect and the window went to a billion pieces on impact.

Obviously I can go to a topper store to replace it, but guessing I may get soaked.

Its a pretty basic piece of glass so my thoughts are maybe its a simple piece to get at a glass place.

Thoughts?

Call a glass company and see if they are able to get you a cheaper peice of glass. then let us know when you got it and we can help you get it put in.

Are there options other than glass? Like some lexan product?

I am surprised I havent busted it to this point, so wondering if there might be something else to use. Although, I suppose if there was a better option that is more durable and cheaper to use, it would have been already on the topper.

I have seen the glass replaced with plexi glass, which is ok for awhile, but it does discolor, and looks nasty after a while. I would stay with glass and try to be carefull!

do you have a 0 deductable for glass breakage on your truck insurance ?

I just replaced the rear door/window on my ARE topper. I backed out of the garage with the door up and it tore the window off the sheet metal at the hinge and bent the frame bad. The window did not break. You can have it for $50 if it fits for you.

I have a Glasstite Raven 2. So chances are that wouldnt come close to working.

I did think of the glass coverage this morning. I have full glass, so hoping that will work!

Just claim it on your insurance. Take it to who ever you want not who they may try to tel you to go to.

i own a glass company in cloquet and we fix about30-40 a year. any glass shop should be able to help you. only drawback is that it takes 1-2 weeks to get glass

Just called the dealer where I bought the topper to find out if he had glass for it.

Sure hope my full glass coverage works on the topper(which I would think it would) because if I go this route its $550 for the full back window/door!!!!!!!!!!!

I left a message with a couple glass dealers too. Even if insurance covers it, $550 is just ludicrous.

If it makes you feel any better, how about $850 to fix the rear glass on my Leer topper. I had to go to Leer to get a new one. It is contoured glass with all the mounted hardware(hinges, door latches, lock, etc..) built into the glass. I love the topper, so I repaired it. Just have to be careful!

The older toppers I've had you could get any glass to fit in for a repair, but not this one...

I got lucky. My policy covers the topper lid.

My agent said that she didnt think it would be covered but did some checking.

She said that every company is different in how they cover "full glass" coverage.

So for all you with toppers, you might just want to double check. Factory replacment would be $550 on my lid. ChuckN was stuck for $850. No chump change.

So worth a call to your agent to find out if your pickup cover glass is actually covered!

To be honest, I am surprised I went this many years without something breaking. Mainly loads that shift in the box and end up on a window.

hockeybc69 or anybody else who's insurance covered this mind revealing who their policy carrier is? I have All State... about to send an email to my agent to ask what is covered on the topper end. Nothing broke right now but I prefer to know ahead of time.

I have Am Fam ins, as long as its attached to my vehicle, its covered. they even paid me to install it.

LOL, now I wish mine would break if it's covered by insurance as I could then get new hardware I'm assuming also... oh well maybe one day for now it works just fine.

I broke the back window on my topper which was covered under my insurance policy. When I looked for the replacement window I had a very hard time since the topper manufacture changed the window design they were using and no longer had no windows available, needless to say the window could not be replaced.

Since the window could not be replaced the insurance company told me to order replacement topper. New topper instead of a window, not bad for a $50 deductible on my comprehensive.

Just had my glasstite cap door shatter on me too. My zero deductible covered it. A company called Duncan Systems found a replacement for me. It wasn't the exact same door; mine was a push button, this one is a twist to open, but it fits and right now appears to still keep the water out.

I googled this topic and HSO thread came up! Anyway, I blew mine out last wknd with the weed whip. I have full glass coverage and called my insurance company to ask if topper was covered, it was.....BUT, if the amount of the claim went over 550ish, the next time my rate was up for renewal, it would put in the price tier....not a lower tier! I called the place I bought it from, got a price of 349.00+60 to install. It's an A.R.E. topper.

Mine got broke out on my Century. Estimate was almost 850. I bought a topper for 150 and kept the change....

I broke mine and insurance covered it. I ordered a new rear door from Radco the dealer for the topper. They installed it and topper the looked as good as ever.
