What kind of dumb a$$ company would insure against a flood that is almost guaranteed to happen????

Oh, wait, the government. I digress.

Why don't you start with all the lumber i left at the carver tressel?!? laugh

That lumber probably has lots of character. Perhaps we should have a river logging show smile

Right about now I'm praying 35W doesn't shut down this spring. And if the water's that high, hwy 13 in Savage will be under water as well. We still have to make it thru one of our snowiest months, and if any above average spring rains come thru, this baby could be historic.

I predict record flood this year, but the 25 hours in a plow truck may have messed with my judgement. King of the Bass 2011?

Henderson rose another .6 today to get to 726.2, action stage is 727. Should be there by mid day tomorrow. Once the water gores into and fills all the back ups and freezes there, there wont be any room for overflow come spring. It could shoot up fast. This could be an interesting year living in the MN River Vally !

If it doesnt get to about record level I cant get the boat in the water, or at least I havent found one yet that doesnt require moving road blocks, so lets at least shoot for that. shocked

I'm going to have to ammend my prediction after yesterdays dumping

I still don't trust the forecasters though. They couldn't even predict a snowstorm 2 days prior.

I hear ya DTRO. It looks like they are trying to CTA now with this prediction for later in the week. It appears we might have round 2 with a "slight shift" this week. whistle

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS Meteorologist Patrick Hammer says the next big storm will likely miss the Twin Cities to the south. However, the storm track will be close, which could mean even a slight shift could bring another snowstorm back to the area.

If you drive to Jordan you can launch your boat at my buddies. It comes right up to his back door, you can back your boat right into his lawn and away you go!

I got a letter from the City of Chaska saying the Chaska Levee has been re-certified and its not neccessary to get more flood insurance...unless this years flood exceeds the 100yr flood plain.

Before they made improvements to the levee, (I think it was '97) it came up to my back yard.

Are we in for the 500yr event?

The river is pretty high right now, and I can see that as good and bad. It can be good as it is moving the water out now, in which a late thaw would be beneficial. Or, it can be very bad, as an early thaw with the river already at bank level, and the ground frozen and saturated, could be devastating! If we get an early thaw, with normal rainfall, I think we will destroy the all time record on books! Either way, it will be interesting, and I am sure the media will be all over it!

Took a little cruise around the area, the river has started to spill out of its banks in some lower areas. It looks as though right now the river has crested at 726.7 in Henderson. As long as the temps stay near the freezing point, and we dont get a lot more snow or rain for a while, atleast long enough for the river to drop 4-5 feet, we should be ok. But if we get some 50's, or some rain anytime soon, it could be trouble!

The way things are going, I think the county/state should tar some back roads, or make some new routes just for detours for floods!

The east side of the 41 bridge was pretty wide open for water. Hopefully it opens up some more. Id like to pitch a few jigs for some walleyes before the season closes.

The river has risen above action stage in Henderson(727), it is at 727.24 now, and is suspected to crest at 727.4. A new report is suspected out next week for the spring prediction, with more snow on its way this weekend. Things arent looking good around here! Anyone know how to build an Ark?

This is going to be a sand bagging year for sure. Last two times it flooded last year the water came up right to my buddies house. I have no doubts that this year he will have water coming into his egress windows in the basement. in 2001 he has 3 inches of water in his basement.

Everyone in henderson or who lives close to the river banks should be looking at how and where to get sand bags. Anyone know???

Ha good call John. I think if you built a huge airboat ferry to bring cars across the river you could make a killing. I wonder how long it will be before the river is fishable. After fishing the Mississippi last week I have the itch.

The river is always fishable, the problem is finding where to get on to the river without getting into trouble wink

I will be offering private access to the river. For a small fee I will launch your boat for you! 5 minutes away from the Jordan launch. smile cash or credit will be accepted. You can launch for free if you take me with smile

I will also offer flood water tours. I can take you from Jordan to Belle Plaine through peoples back yards. See Ducks, Geese, swimming deer, squirrels, snakes, and racoons! For a small fee I will drop you off on an ice berg and take a picture of you surfing an ice burg down the river.

Oh and a casting deck and rod holders.... laugh

I bet those guys that ran the ferry many years ago got lots of fishing in between pulling vehicles across the river!

Nick, my problem would be getting to Jordan! Since the flood makes HWY 169 a 30 mile drive from my house, instead of the normal 5 miles.

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st
