we are looking for a sleeper house.. nothing fancy but at least sleepable.. the cheaper the better... not being a cheap-skate but money is tight with the new baby here but I still want to get me low trips in this year.. would much rather stay out on the lakethen in Baudette... any info would be nice....
[email protected]

Ethan, can't blame a guy for being frugal, especially with a new little one to take care of. You will find many fantastic resorts up here with sleepers. You'll also find their rates are quite competitive with one another as well. Bookings can be at a premium at certain times of the season. Check the resort locator page and you'll find some phone #'s and contact info.
If you want to shoot me an email and let me know what time of year you're planning, and how many in your group and some more of your particulars and what not I'll get back to you.
fiskyknut at yahoo.com

Hi Ethan,
Check the resort locator link above.
Walleye Retreat
Gibbin's Ice Fishing
Schuster's
If you pick weekdays you will usually get a better price.
Check out their package deals as well.
Name dropping of FishingMinneosta.com while asking for a deal sometimes helps. Heck, it helps with most resorts on the lake grin.gif

I highly recommend Gibbin's ice fishing. His houses are GREAT and I do not believe you will find anything cheaper.

Why don't you give Zipple Bay Resort a call? My buddy and I rented a sleeper house from them last year, and I was surprised at how cheap it was (like $70 for the two of us for one night). The house wasn't as eqsuisite as the radisson, but it was more than sufficient for us! Too bad the fish didn't want to cooperate.
NOTE** That was a weekday rental.

Question for you guys does Gibbins have houses other than sleepers?? I would assume so but thought I would check. Also were do they typically set their houses up.
------------------
Grip it and Rip it
IFFWalleyes
I Fish For Walleyes

I believe he has some day houses.
Last year he had his houses set out from the Morris Gap area.

Smartguy,
We stayed in a sleeper out of Zipple Bay Resort a few years ago also. We had a similar experience. The house was not nearly as exquisite as the Radisson or any other sleeper I've rented, anywhere. We also caught very few fish through two days of fishing. Maybe it was all the traffic and resulting commotion from everyone else that they sell road passes to. Coincidence?
.... smile.gif I have found that my money is spent better on other choices.

Thanks Dr Bob
I am one that can't stay on the lake at night it drives me nuts as much as I love LOW I have to get off her for a while. I have hear a lot of good things about Gibbins so I think I might have to give him a call this winter. I need a new place in that area.
------------------
Grip it and Rip it
IFFWalleyes
I Fish For Walleyes
[This message has been edited by iffwalleyes (edited 11-06-2003).]

I've been doing some checking on this subject. We were going to get a house from Gibbems and get the motel in town for $50 a night on new years eve and day. The motel is booked. It looks like we will be getting a cabin and house at Zippel. Went to Schusters last year but wanted to try something different and a little cheaper. I think fishing luck has all to do with time of year because of the style of lake. It seems the resorts will do a lot ot put you on fish. See you all new years again. Can't wait...

#BOATER#, Will be heading up to Schusters for some fishing over New Years. Just wondering how your experience was? Did you stay in the cabins, how was fishing etc.
Just looking for info on other peoples exp.
Good Fishin, OLE

Nothing wrong with Schusters. Just looking for somethin different. They did a great job on everything. The drivers were really accomodating (sp) and would stop by once or twice a day to see how we were doing. If it's similar to last year ask them if they have some shiners for sale. The groups with a few shiners had the best luck. Bring a good GMRS radio to listen to other parties about whats hot and bring every coler. If your cooking your own. they have most everything but the food at the cabin. Keep in touch.

I have always used portables on LOW, but i brought a few buddies up last winter and rented a house from *. Where ever you decide to go, DO NOT go through him. I forget the owners name, but he was a complete jerk from the word go. He brought us out to the house, it was so run down and disgusting, we rented the house for 3 nights, ended up leaving after the first night. It was embarassingly bad. I'm not one to complain when i'm on a vacation, (especially fishing) but there were porno pics hung up all over the walls, mattresses from the '60s, oven didn't work, i could go on and on. I wouldn't have wished this experience on anyone! I'm just glad it was my buddies and i without our girlfriends, 'cause there is no way a woman would have even stayed that one night. Good luck! Fish on!!!!
scisor, I edited the name of the operator from your post as we at FM.com do not allow bashing of a business of any type. fiskyknut
[This message has been edited by fiskyknut (edited 11-09-2003).]

scisor30, I think I know who you are talking about. I stayed there 2 winters ago and that oven didnt work then, along with the lights and the heater....they gave us uncharged batteries to run electric lights, glad we brought lanterns and mr heaters....what a freakin' dive. We asked for a nights worth of money back since we couldn't cook on the stove and had to use our propane and gas to keep warm and all they said was that we were the first ones in the house for the year and they needed to get the bugs out, sounds like they still havent fixed anything (and all they did for us was not charge us sales tax, and that was after asking them to reimburse us for 1 night).......... word of advice, do alot of investigating before you plan a overnight trip in a sleeper up there, it can be cold and lonely out there, make sure it is from a reputable place with good equipment. Or do what i do, stay in a hotel and bring your portables, had alot better luck doing that....

I would'nt go there either!

If I new the resort name.

me and a couple buddies are heading up the end of january and are looking into getting a sleeper in the pine island area we were wondering if they would let us drive are pickups out there so we can move around a bit with the portables or if we had to ride out in the bombadiers also wondering of a good resort to go to any info would be greatly appreciated

When I stayed a Gibbin's last year Bryant let me drive my truck out there. I am sure he'd let you if the snow is not too deep. Just stay off the van/bomber trails.
Arnesen's will not let anyone drive off of their landing. They do not want there track van trails rutted up.
