Winds were strong. Some trees and branches came down. But since no one knows which tree your stand was in, how can we answer your question? smile

Have you been there since last season? The forest service has given a lot of cutting permits out in this area. They logged 280 acres around my area.

Chris,

Yes we were up 3 weeks ago and camped for the weekend. We made repairs to our stands and did some grouse hunting...Didnt see much sign and only saw 2 deer the whole time we were grouse hunting... Looking pretty slim again this year but thats the way it goes.. Just hoping that the stands are intact. I take it you are hunting the state forest as well..

I'm heading there to close the lake cabin down this weekend. Hmmmmm, maybe bring a bow and hunt out of your stand to warm it up a bit. So, where is it? gringringrin

Steve,

I appreciate you wanting to warm it up for me. You wouldnt be the first person to do so. Here are the directions...

From the main road head into the woods 867 steps turn east at the big pine, then go 611 steps and go south at the old oak with the broken branch,146 steps to the north and you are there.... Have fun and make sure you carv you name and size of deer in one of the rails... gringrinlaugh

What, that old POS? Everyone knows there are no deer near that stand. gringringrin

Last time I checked, it was illegal to hunt/repair/construct any permanent stands in state forests. Has this law changed?

It sure is... I have been sitting in a stand that was built about 10 years ago.. We just do a little fixing up every year and its good to go... Having a hard time sitting here... Want to be up north in the woods... Cant wait until Thursday at 4:30PM....

I personally think that it is a [PoorWordUsage] law to begin with. We have had many perm. stands that we built over 15 years ago. I loved the time I spent with my dad going up in October to build or repair the stands. It takes some of the fun out of it now that we are unable to use them anymore. Out of all the stands that we built, there was only one that I would be able to use now, because I only bow hunt. These stands were built mainly for rifle, which is what I started with, then went to bow.

Good luck this coming weekend. Be safe.
