So what do you all think for some dates for possible get togethers on the ice this year? Definetly not to early to start thinking of when might be a good weekend or 2.
Couple ideas off the top of my head....
Maybe the weekend after Christmas, the 27th-28th, alot of folks have time around this time of the season, the fishing is usually good to great, and the ice is usually thick enough by then for driving.
In March the ICE series tourney will be up here and this would be a great time too. March 13 and 14. Those who want to fish the tourney could, and those who just want to funfish could hangout and also partake in the happenings after the tourney days. There is product testing/checking out, and what not, Rick and crew will be up here at this time and the fishing is also usually pretty good around this time of year as well.
So what do you'all think as far as dates???
Fisky

Hey Bud, How's she go?
I will try to make it up the weekend after Christmas. I may have a kid or two in tow.
I am planning a FM get together out of Gibbins on March 26th and 27th. I have a thread going on it on the BWCA / Duluth / Range Forum. Check it out.
Sorry I missed you last weekend. Did you check your email yet?
Later

I plan to be arrive on the 29th and staying through the 1st. Going to be fishing and staying out at Long Point.

I like the March ICE Series date myself. I'll be up there that weekend, and I don't make it up as much as I like to!!! smile.gif
I'd like to join in on the fun. Not entirely sure what my schedule is like though. That weekend you mentioned I will probably be in SD for a pheasant hunt. If it was later in the year, maybe I could bring along a few of those tasty birds for everyone to snack on. I'll keep an eye on the forum and try to make whatever date the rest of you folks decide on.

Bob, my emails being screwy again, won't let me open your mail to me? I've been way busy this past week or I would have gotten to it sooner. I did manage to get out a couple times and do a bit of jigging this week but have'nt been on this box at all. Planning a LOTW get together on the BWCA forum are ya??? Sure include us locals out eh!!! I'll go peek at that thread here shortly. Are those dates set in stone? You may want to see if you guys can book a bit earlier with Gibbons and be around while the ICE tourney is up here???
CD, dates I brought up are just out there to be kicked around. Figure why not both an early and a late season get together, heck we could try and do a midwinter one as well if there is interest. I think the March date during the ICE series tourney would fly well though.
Fisky

I'd love to make either of them, both if I possible. With enough notice I could probably swing both, we'll see when the dates are finalized.
Fisherdog

Fisky,
I like the early ice option !
I plan on being up 12/18 - 12/21 for our first early ice trip. I still have a new Rock-n-reel with your name on it from last winter....)I just mounted one on my eskimo tub the other night and can't wait to try it on some first ice LOW walleyes and URL slabs. We'll have to try to hook up that weekend and tip a couple. I'll probably be up the weekend after Xmas too if the action's anything like last year at that time !
I'll stay posted to this thread to see if we can make arrangements for a FM get together.
Chris

Fisky, what side of the lake in December?

Posted

I'll be up there for a week in late February chasing the eyes and eelpout. I was up there last winter and caught a lot of eyes and saugers. A lot of 18-22 inchers and one that went 6 pounds! Saugers weren't too big, a few maybe 1.5 to 2 pounds. Eelpout bite was pretty good. After the evening walleye bite we started getting into some nice pout. 7-8 pounders and one that went about 9.5! They put up a fight and can be fun action after the walleyes slow down after dusk. Also caught a few nice tulibee and perch.
I also plan on making a trip up in either late December/early January or in March.
If anyone is going to be up there in late February and would like to meet up let me know. I talked to a few guys up there this summer that gave me a few winter crappie spots that I plan on trying out up there.
Good Fishin,
Matt
[email protected]

Fisky,
If I can find a good guy to smoke a few I'll do it. The guy I was using retired. If nothing else, maybe I'll bring the turkey fryer, I've always wanted to do that out on the ice, this could be a great weekend to try it.

fisky,
Probably US waters near rainy more for crappies. We will be up there for two weeks ina row...I think we are going out of Addrian's for a week and then we will also spend a week in Canada somewhere.
Good Fishin,
Matt
[email protected]

Sounds like fun- any chance we can get some dates asap so I can make arrangements right away? That way I won't have to bail in it in the end.
Fisky, you been out lately? What's the good word?
Scoot

I'll be up there for the I.C.E. series also.
Can't wait to fish late ice again on LOW
------------------
Paul
[email protected]

Ripper, most likely over near Pine I'd reckon, depends on what folks want to do I guess. My huts are set up over there till early January usually. I have an Otter also so I'm flexible. Fishing is usually quite good over there thru December and the ice is usually good to go for vehicles a bit sooner than over your way. Maybe we could get something going out on one of the reefs off of Babblers a bit later in the season? What do you think?
Twitter, I'll look for the flying Crown Royal bag and get that RnR off you this year for sure! I'll be on the ice over on that side of the pond from freezeup till early January anyways.
Rick, barring any unforseen calamities I'll be around that March weekend, I might even fish the tourney with you guys as well.
MJ5, you talking Crappies in US waters or Canada?
Josh, smoked Pheasant.....Yummmm!
This is a post to figure out the where's and when's and whatnots, so keep any suggestions coming and eventually we'll firm some things up. I think the March dates in conjunction with the ICE series tourney is definetly the weekend to shoot for on the late ice. Early and midwinter dates are still open to suggestion, don't let the dates I brought up stop any of you from speaking up! Heck I live up this way and I'm on the ice 3 or 4 days a week anyways so I'm very flexible.
Fisky

Something maybe out near the reefs outta Babblers mid/late January or early Feruary???
Any other, and all ideas are more than welcome.
Butch, I remember you from the Red, remember I'm the one who missed the boat!!! I have a six person sleeper off Pine Island and can probably make the March tourney weekend too. I won't fish the tourney, but would still like to join in the evening festivities. Probably have room for a couple more FM'ers too!
------------------
End of the Line Charters
Lake Superior
1-888-U-HOOK-EM
www.fishontheline.com
[This message has been edited by End of the Line (edited 11-03-2003).]

There’s critters out and about. Get yourself some cellular trail cams and you’ll see.

It wouldn't be the first time I've heard the USS Skunked Again breaking ice! I left this morning, the rain really did a number to the ice. I'll bet the Partridge River will be open by the weekend.

My yard is pretty open, but narrow. I think I'll be fine with reception in the areas I'm thinking. I try to keep the hill somewhat natural, but my wife wants to see the lake better. The video's I've watched, they have topped the trees and mounted the dish. I would this the swaying would affect the signal. Does Starlink help you with using WiFi for calling? My T-Mobile service sux at the cabin. Did you bury your cable?

I'm on the wide part of the channel going in to Black Bay. We won't see Paul B. For years.

Welcome back. Wow it's been since 2018 it looks like. Did you ever "I'm tightening up my footprint and want to build on my Bozeman lot on the Gallatin"? 😏

You're probably right. This isn't official since I've already lost, but I'll make my supplemental guess for May 6th since it's still open. 😄 As long as I can snake my way along the shore and/or plow through some dark ice on the 8th, I'll be happy. I love aluminum boats!

For all of my "problems" with getting a clear signal it's worth it. I can spend more time at the lake because I can work during the day and play or get things done at night. Toss in that I can record and watch a football/hockey/basketball game when I'm done at the end of the day....priceless. Like your place, our property is more natural and I was worried about having to cut down a bunch of trees. I like that people have to get up close to see our place from the lake through the trees. Luckily I didn't have to do much to get enough a signal that works for me. If I needed to be on video calls, I probably would run the dish down to the shore to get a better view of the sky. BTW - the main problem with mounting the dish on a tree is that the tree still has a canopy that will block the signal. The best option would be to top a tree and then mount it on the clear-cut top.
