I go up to LOW every Jan, and was wondering what other peoples opinion is on this resort......Arnesens
[This message has been edited by WhaTT! (edited 10-24-2003).]
[This message has been edited by WhaTT! (edited 10-24-2003).]

The will take good care of you. I went there for several years and was pretty satisfied. The guides work HARD to get you on fish.

I had a great time out of their resort last januarry. they take real good care of you. and the fishing was great.
I make one trip a year out of there for about the last 7 years. They are great they still get personal attention to you which is tough when they are as big as they are. We already have our dates booked for this year.
------------------
Grip it and Rip it
IFFWalleyes
I Fish For Walleyes

There isn't a pool table and they only have that one small tv at the bar.

RE: Arnesens
Went to make reservations for the 8th to 12th!!!booked solid...that is the best week , in my experience to get the bulk of the eyes....

Posted

We have reservations for the Feb 22, 23,& 24 we decided to go during the week more rather than all over the weekend it is nice to try and avoid the crowds a little. Plus they are able to move you a little easier during the week than weekend even though they try hard to accomodate you on the weekends. Last year we had our full limit of eyes and sauger for 4 of us I think that we were up there a week earlier. As far as best dates it really doesn't matter one way or another when you are up there there is always good fishing.
------------------
Grip it and Rip it
IFFWalleyes
I Fish For Walleyes

iffwalleyes
We were there last year, only 1 sauger? the rest Eyes, 3 pout. All 5 of us did not fill out singlally but caught enought for everyone.
I was wondering other peoples opinion on the resort.

Just made our reservation for Dec. 26, 27, and 28th at Arnesens. I have noticed that most people go up in January. How do you guys/gals feel about this time of year(Late Dec.)? They say they put their homes near rocky point. Is this a nice area to fish in December? And last question, are their sleeper shacks pretty nice compared to others? Thanks for all the help.

Posted

I have never fished there in December so I can't help you with that.
As far as the sleepers go - they are nice roomy houses but you need to bring a fair amount of stuff. Here is what they do have:
Padded bunks, metal folding chairs, 5 gallons of water, a sunflower heater in case the furnace croaks (and they do sometimes) minnows and a scoop, a chisel, gas lamps, a cook top, a built on outhouse complete with pail, bags and seat. That's about it. Everything else you gotta bring including sleeping bags, pots, pans and dishes, soap, ect.
I have had a lot of fun in those houses grin.gif.
Albert and the boys will do there best to get you on fish .............

Dr. Bob,
I appreciate the feedback. This will be our first time in sleepers on LOW. We usually bring portables and fish the pine island area. looking forward to this trip. I hope we didn't schedule our trip a little early. it sure does seem like January is a popular time. Good luck to all. I almost forgot to ask if there is a card table in the houses. Thanks again for all the information.

Some of the houses have fold up tables that they hide under the bunk. Call a head and ask them if they can make sure there is one in your house.
December may be a little early for the sleepers. They are way heavy and need GOOD ice. The way the weather is going so far it should be good by then.
I fished there for years and was usually happy. Last year I switched to Gibbins Ice Fishing because it is more affordable when I bring my family. I am really happy I checked it out because the houses there are incredible (lots of room and I don't need to bring nearly as much stuff). And so far I have been happy with the fishing.

There is no better time to ice fish LOW then December. From the moment you can get on the ice till the begining of January is the greatest. The only thing is the action is hotter on the east side of the lake during this time.

Posted

Does Arnesens put their homes on the west side of the lake? I am uncertain were this rocky point is. Again, thanks for all the feed back.

Posted

On the South shore. The point separates the two bays.

STILLNOFISH, Rocky point is straight north of Roosevelt Mn. at the end of county rd. 17.
Don't worry, Paul and their other ice guides know what they're doing, and know where the fish are over that way thru the seasons.
Many folks would cast their vote as to this area being the best place to fish at this time of year.
I would venture a guess and say you'll have 20+ fish a day per angler no problem!
Relax buddy, you're gonna get on the fish, just don't expect to catch a bunch after dark though!!!
fiskyknut

This just crossed my mind in staying in a sleeper this year. How do you guys charge your flashers. Are there outlets in Arnesens sleepers. Thanks for any information.

Posted

I usually have an extra battery along. One time I sent one back to the lodge at night with one of the guides. They had a charger there and charged it for me. Another one of the guys dropped it off in the morning.

Posted

Stillnofish,
I'm curious--do you want to spend the night on the ice to fish overnight?
LOW is not a night-bite lake--it dies when the sun goes down and it doesn't start-up until the sun gets on the tree-line. LOW is a dark-stained lake and the fish are day biters, except an occasional 'Pout.
Some may argue this, but I think you'll enjoy the entire trip more if you sleep in more comfortable surroundings on shore.
Just a thought--Arnesens are great folks!
------------------
Chells

Chells,
For about 6 yrs a group of us have always stayed at the beaudette motel and fished the pine island area. We usually come up in early january and March. we decided this year to go the lazy route and do the sleeper thing. We felt that in years past we were missing some excellent fishing having to pack the gear, move to another spot and then off the ice before it gets dark. We also would have a few that would drag their butts in the morning, making it a little iritating. So all in all I guess we are going to give it a try this time and see how it goes. I am a little nervous about having the guides take my vexilar for charging, but that might be the only way, unless someone has another idea. I would like to avoid having to purchase another battery. Thaks again for all the helpful information.

About 6 years ago I ended up booking a last minute trip to Arnesen's and all of the cabins were full. All that was left was a sleeper so I had to take it if I wanted to go. I ended up having a total blast and have not stayed in a resort cabin since. It took me a while to convince my wife to try it and she ended up loving it too! I sleep like a rock in those things and get much more fishing in.
One word of advice though - If you get stuck with the top bunk toss the mattress on the floor and sleep there. Just make sure you have a good bag. Those top bunks are WAY to hot for this Norksy kid.
FYI - You can get extra Vexi batteries for about $16 if you know where to look.
Have fun.

Posted

Without a generator you're probably stuck dragging along the spare battery, so either way it's still more to haul.
I'd rather have the battery in-hand than send it back to shore--waiting for it to come back sometime the next morning.
I'm so spoiled now with a flasher that fishing w/o one feels almost like jigging without a hook on my bait!
Have a great trip whichever you opt to do!
------------------
Chells

Looks like I am going to purchase a new battery. I must admit that this site has truly been a blessing for information. Dr. Bob, I know exactly what you are talking about with regards to the top bunk. Last year we went to Mille Lacs and rented a sleeper. Of course I got the top bunk. Friends thought it would be funny to turn up the heat a little when I fell asleep. Hoo was that ever hot. Good luck to all.

I always bring my boats deep cylce battery and wire all of our flashers to it!!
Use stereo speaker wires!
It never gets low on power, plus you can hook up any electronic device that requires 12 volts and not have a problem!
Been doing that for years without any problems, just make sure you put an in line fuse for safety!
Good Luck!

Dr. Bob,
Do those sleepers have muffin fans to circulate the air? I have a top bunk in the house I just built, not tested yet, and we put in a muffin fan in hopes of avoiding the top too hot, bottom too cold problem. Just curious as how those sleepers are set up.
Thanks

Posted

No they don't -
What are muffin fans anyway?

Posted

Dr. Bob
Just a small round fan, mine is 5" diameter, that runs on DC, and oscillates back and forth.
it keeps the air moving, helps keep holes open, and keeps the fishhouse from being hot near the ceiling and cold near the floor.
I think they call them muffin fans because they are shapped like a muffin.

Posted

Hey rookie,
Those muffin fans work wonders!, wouldn't be without one. I put a rheostat on mine to control the speed. It doesn't take much, and if you are on a long weekend, slower speed will take less off your battery.
