Packers / Vikings - Game 3 of 4

SkunkedAgain

Recommended Posts

It's now the third Favre vs the Packers meeting. What do you all think? The Vikings have beat the 1-5 Lions and the 1-4 Cowboys. The Packers have beat the 4-2 Eagles, the 0-5 Bills, and the 1-5 Lions.

This is another ugly fest. I hate to admit that I believe that the Vikings have a little more momentum going into the game and will win. My only hope is that the Packers have Clay Matthews coming back along with Atari Bigby and Al Harris. Beyond that it's still a hospital ward.

weak NFC-- no one is scary. Vikes played at the Jets (best team ranked by some major media outlets) and gave them all they wanted. Vikes just need to hold serve and win one game they shouldn't and they are in the playoffs at 10-6. Oh yeah,, Vikes at the Pack,,, high scoring ,,, last team with the ball wins.....

I think Vikes over pack only because of GB no run game and GB defense is pretty banged up, would not be shocked if Rodgers can light it up early we go down, but the vikes D has been pretty decent and Jared Allen loves the Packers, look at his sack totals against them last year, with them he's a pro-bowler, without the GB games he's average at best.

I knew this thread was started by a Packer fan, lol. It's game 1 of 2, not 3 of 4. The Vikings swept the Packers last year...that is history...in the books.

Who knows, maybe you can pull out a sweep this year. But last year is done, Favre or no Favre.

Clay Mathews is an absolute beast. Hopefully his hammy slows him down or Favre might not make it out of the 1st quarter.

Should be a good game, they almost always are. Both teams are playing pretty bad. The Vikings have no offense though, I'm worried it will be tough to keep up with Rogers arm. Vikings only way to get a 'W' is if the line can create pressure on Rogers...something they haven't done at all this year.

If I was a betting man with no homerism I'd say the Packers win this game. The homer in me though says Vikes by 3.

Pack light up our weak secondary, Pack by 17

Vikings are ranked 6th in the NFL for passing yards allowed...

The Vikings have faced 3 top 10 passing offenses this season (3 out of 5 games).

4. Dallas

5. New Orleans

6. Detroit

Packers are #10.

Hate to muddle facts into the discussion, but if the stats show us anything it's that the Vikings second string secondary has done a stand up job against some of the leagues best passing games.

With all of the injuries that Green Bay has, they should be easy pickins for the Vikes and really shouldn't have much of a problem getting the win at Lambeau.

Vikes big, we have multiple hall of famers on the squad, Hutch, Allen, AP, #4, Kwill, Moss and perhaps, just perhaps Winfield. The Pack have maybe one in Woodson. The Vikes have a superior coach in Chilly who is doing a whale of a job in Minny, inceasing the teams wins every year. We have # 4 on our side for gosh sakes, he threw for over 100 yds last week and AP is rolling now, I see where he ran for 73 yds against the Cowboys. Why I think I may have seen Allen in a play or two. Well at least I saw him wave his arm and ask for the crowd to be loud. What a team we have!

How can it even be close?

HAHAHA a superior coach in Chilly that is hands down the funniest thing i have ever read on this forum. i think vike fans would rather have mike mccarthy as a coach then chilly, at least mccarthy can stand up to favre where chilly picks him up from the airport. haha superior coach

I think its gonna be a last possession game as well pack D is banged up but should be interesting

Green Bay at home is the favorite...if the Vikes win they'll need to create some turn-overs. The pressure will be on Rodgers to win at least one of the 4 match-ups with Favre...I don't see it happening...even on the road.

If we can't beat this Packers team that is on its last leg I would say the season is a wash for us as well. Truth is the NFC north is a joke to this point.

The bears got lucky in the beginning of the season. Refer to my thread about the "bears season prediction".

Jared Allen has been sadbagging this season because offenses have double teaming him and shutting him down... but Rodgers is about to get a good taste of him on sunday. If not, i'm sure leber or greenway will show him who's got some nuts. Rodgers can't carry an entire team, they will realize what weaknesses they have this season on sunday.

Packers will continue to be #2 in the NFC North as always... just let the season run it's course.

I have no idea what to expect this week. The pack should win at home but the vikings always play them tough. If Brett gets a little time to react/throw then he will carve them up, control the clock and the game and the vikings will leave with a 27-17 victory.

Nice setup LMIT, sorry but its quite transparent.

Just stating the obvious.

You can't deny that Green Bay has been decimated by injuries to key players in key positions and are not the same team that started the season with playoff expectations.

Yep in a Lmitout post-game post preview it's either:

1. I'm not surprised the Vikings won given all of the Packers injuries

2. I can't believe how bad the Vikings are. They couldn't even beat a very depleted Packers Roster.

3. Harvin's still a bust. He only did so well because of Packer injuries. wink

I found this online. It really did seem like the Packers sat in coverage versus blitzing last season. Lots of people and sportswriters have called for the Packers to blitz Favre more this time. The stats below make it hard to argue either way. He killed us with and without the blitz. At least he's not having another magic year:

Quote:
"Last year, as you might recall, the Packers went without a sack on 59 pass plays over two games against the Vikings. Quarterback Brett Favre completed 41 of those 59 passes for 515 yards and seven touchdowns without an interception. For those scoring at home, that's a 135.9 passer rating. For reasons that seem relatively self-explanatory, the Packers largely sat back in coverage in those games. According to ESPN's Stats and Information, Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers sent at least one extra pass rusher on 18 pass plays (30.5 percent). But as the chart shows, Favre threw a completion on 16 of them, including three touchdowns."

16 of 18 against the blitz? Are you kidding me? That means that he went 25 for 41 when not blitzed. So the better odds are in favor of blitzing less. Of course, you need to factor in downs and yardage to truly evaluate the effectiveness of a blitz but his numbers are enough to drive a defensive coordinator/fan to drinking!

Wow, you guys are paranoid.

Are options #1 and #2 not valid points?

It would probably have more validity to it if A. The Vikings weren't playing on the road, and B. The Vikings weren't also smacked with the injury bug. The Vikings, while maybe not to the extent of the Packers are also plagued up and down with injuries to key personnel.

Vikings should win, but don't is my prediction.

I am so mad at the Vikings it's really hard to justify turning the game(s) on. If any other team had, well let's see...Farve, Peterson, Harvin, Moss, Winfield, Allen, etc - it would be a Superbowl team, period! Welcome to the field Farve and the Anchorage Otters... Why can't the Vikings get there?! (no i'm not a Pack fan either)

Honestly, who cares about the Pack and the rest of the season...it's the post-season that matters this year for the Vikes and IF we get there...they will lose the first game.

With Moss having had some time here now its time for this offence to turn it on! The main key remains to be the offensive line. Time to step it up against this depleted Packers team boys.

P.S Look at the year E.J. Henderson is having after that gruesom injury. That guy is unbelievable.

You must be betting the vegas line pretty heavy then seeing as though the vikes are now getting 3 points, up from 2 earlier in the week.
