Thanks for any info. Good luck to all this season

If you're hunting this weekend's MEA Youth Deer Hunt he can shoot either a doe, or a buck. This is the first year youth are allowed to shoot a buck during this season.

On page 29 of the 2010 Hunting Regs, under Special Youth Deer Season it states, "The following deer areas are open October 21-24 for taking either-sex deer by firearms for youth 10-15 years old at the time of the hunt."

It goes on to explain specific zones, and additional stipulations in "lottery" areas, etc.

icecold, you need to let us know the area number that you are hunting in. I looked at the numbers around the New Ulm area, and they are not listed as the areas eligible to participate in the youth hunt over MEA. Better check on that. Below are the areas that have the early youth season.

Quote:
SPECIAL YOUTH DEER SEASON

The following deer areas are open October 21-24 for taking eithersex

deer by firearms for youth 10-15 years old at the time of the hunt.

Participant numbers are not limited and there is no special permit.

101, 105, 111, 114, 201, 203, 208, 209, 256, 257, 260, 263, 264, 267,

268, 338, 339, 341, 342, 343, 344, 345, 346, 347, 348, 349, and 601.

Near as I can tell, you are in a lottery area, there is no early antlerless, however, your son can shoot a deer of either sex during the regular firearm season without applying for a lottery permit.

Quote:
Youth Antlerless Privilege in Lottery Deer Areas Residents and nonresidents

under the age of 18 may take a deer of either sex in lottery deer

areas without having to apply for or obtain an either-sex permit. Youth age

12 to 17 should not apply for an either sex permit. ONLY THE YOUTH

LICENSEE MAY TAKE AND TAG AN ANTLERLESS DEER IN A

LOTTERY DEER AREA without an either-sex permit. Other members

of the hunting party cannot take antlerless deer for the youth. Youth may

not tag antlerless deer taken by another individual. Youth hunters must

take and tag their own antlerless deer.

Does anyone know of any good spots near belle plaine for a youth hunter?

I am taking my 15 year old bro in law either around belle plaine or to se mn.

I have some private land to hunt but it is a long drive and you never know who might be out there.

I just want him to see some deer.

Thanks,

Yes he can. 16 and under are not required to submit for a doe permit, even within a lottery area. He can legally take either sex deer with no worries. Once he turns 17, he is considered an adult hunter and needs to submit for doe permits like everyone else.
