Romantic Winter Getaways...

Coach1310

Question

Good day all. My wife's bday is coming up and she has been talking about how with work, kids, life etc. we need to get away for a weekend and relax. Just looking for any spots/locations etc. you have been or would recommend. She loves the spa/massage deal, but the rest will basically be just resting/relaxing and enjoy some peace and quiet.

Thanks for any help....

My wife and I have stayed at GV in Nisswau. We've usually rented a townhome, make one meal in house go to sherwood forest for the other. Their spa is nice, she says. We spent one day getting massages and taking it easy. the next day I went ice fishing and she spent the day at the spa herself.

they usually have some last minute deals posted online which can help save a couple $$$.

The Grand Ely Lodge is a nice get away. My wife and I spent a "Fall color" weekend there a few weeks ago and ran around town to all the shops. wink

The Pebble Spa in Ely is excellent. Lots of lodging options. Can you be a bit more specific on what type of lodging you're interested in?

I'm open for all types of lodging, but something that won't cost me a fortune, but is still has the cozy feel would be great. A fireplace would be a big plus!! Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

You didn't state a price range, so I'll toss out another option. Go online the week of your planned romantic getaway and find a fire-sale deal on a warm weather trip. I just looked at one site and found several 3-day trips to Mexico and the Caribbean for $399-499 per person, airfare and everything included. You may not know your destination until the week of the trip, but you can pick somewhere warm no matter what. Sometimes that spur-of-the-moment decision can make a trip exciting.

I always thought it would be neat to spend a weekend at a bed n breakfast. Here's a few in Duluth to look up (google 'em for the #'s): The Olcott House, The Cotton Mansion, The Ellery House and the Firelight Inn.

Also head up the North Shore and check out the Grand Superior Lodge, Superior Shores or Cove Point in Silver Bay. All these are awesome!

Some great places here in the Bayfield area.. Right on Lake Superior and the gateway to the Apostle Islands.. Mid-winter, late January into all of February is the time due to all kinds of stuff to explore. Ice formations in the sea caves, dog sled races, ice road to Madeline island, etc etc..

Team this with great B&B's such as the Rittenhouse Inn, Pinehurst Inn, etc etc and your set for a great weekend with your wife.

Ah, budget. How about the Log cabins at some of the State Parks. smile

They may have good food, but I've been there twice and had some of the worst service I have experienced anywhere in the country. The second time we left after over an hour of no wait staff attending to our party (no beverage service????)and we had 8 people that would have added to their tip. Cannot recommend that one.

I have to agree with Lisa on this one, regarding Cove Point. Great place (been there twice) with good amenities, a beautiful location and close to lots of north shore destinations.
