The 2010 South Dakota Pheasant Season will open at noon on Saturday, October 16.

Our annual brood route survey has revealed our bird numbers are holding strong, and with over 1.28 million acres of public access walk-in areas, over 300,000 acres of Game Production areas, and a new program called CREP (Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program) in the eastern part of the state that is continually adding acres of public access, South Dakota hunters should have a good year. To view maps of these areas, visit: http://arcgis.sd.gov/Wilma/mapping/mapping_public.aspx

More information on the season, visit: http://gfp.sd.gov/hunting/small-game/pheasants.aspx

To purchase a license to hunt pheasants in South Dakota, visit an authorized license dealer, or visit: https://apps.sd.gov/applications/gf82/login.asp

Who's going?

What do you have to say about South Dakota Pheasant Hunting??

Packing up tonight and heading to east central Friday a.m., can't wait! There is still alot of corn in the fields, but it will still be a fun hunt. Good Luck to all! Hunt Safe.

I also just started packing. We're leaving Sunday and hunting Monday through Friday. We hunt in the Plankington SD. area.

I love hunting SD, but not a chance you'll catch me there until late November and Mid December! Have a "blast" and be safe crew!

No opener for me, but I'll be out there for the last weekend in Oct and most of the weekends in Nov., then maybe 1-2 in Dec.

Not humnting this weekend, but out here scouting none the less. Went from Plankinton, to Chamberlain, to Presho and back today.

Pressure seemed lighter than I expected in those areas. Guys I talked to ranged from doing Ok, to poorest opener ever. There is a considerable amount of harvest completed. Id say beans 95%, corn 45%, sunflowers, 50% milo. 40% in my estimation.

Personally, I seen lots of birds today.

Wont be back till the 25th to hunt. Maybe fishing tomorrow.

Update for Sunday: Worked my GSP with the group today before heading home. 21 roosters in an hour. Lots of young, some with little coloration.

I dont know why everyone is in such a hurry out there. Relax, you got all day.
