Chainsaw question

I have a McCulloch 32cc saw with a 14 in. bar. The chain keeps coming loose after a few minutes of cutting. I've cleaned it out, checked it, tightened everything according to the book, but after a few minutes the chain is loose, if I keep cutting it will come off. What am I missing, I've used this saw for 15 years on big and small jobs--is it toast?

Be sure the bar is in the upper most position when you tighten it.

how old is the chain? sometimes chains get stretched out

Just put on a new chain, wonder if the bolts that the bar nuts fasten to are stripped a little, going to put on a washer on each and see what happens. Cuts well for a few minutes, just not safe as it loosens up

Make sure the adjuster pin is properly engaged in the hole in the bar, and that when loosly tightened it moves the bar back and forth. Also look at the chain case cover to see if it is cracked or broken.

I'm with hydro. The only way the bar can slide backwards is if the bar is not seated properly on the adjustment pin or the case is cracked and the cover isn't tight against the posts and allowing the bar to move off the adjustment post.

I don't know that saw specifically, but that has to be the cause.
