Have the Shiners and Walleyes moved into the Rainy River yet as they do in the fall??? I know the river is down about 4 ft and the channel to the Lighthouse Gap is very shallow, but will this deter the Walleyes this year from coming in?? I think it was later in September or October last year, but I forgot the dates and want to be there this year for the great river fishing.. Any help would be appricated....Kaz <P>------------------<BR>KAZ

Kaz,<P>The river is full of shiners and has been since before Labor Day. If you look across the river from the resorts you'll see gagillions of tiny tail flips. Also, if you sit down on the docks you can see swarms of the little buggers. All of that's the good news. The bad news is that the 'eyes haven't followed yet. I'd imagine they will before too long, but just not yet. In fact, it sounds like the bait fishing has been tough going up there for the last week or so. I'm guessing after this cold snap that's predicted we might see a change with fish staging in front of the gap and starting to enter the bay and river. Only time will tell!<BR>Scoot

Thanks Scoot: I hadn't heard the shiners were in the river yet, that's good news. We were planning to go up this weekend, but decided to wait until we hear confirmed reports the fish have moved in too. I talked to a fellow who live behind me up there, and he said their still out in 31'. I think you are the one who has a place over by Ballard's, aren't you??? Anyway I'll be up as soon as the "Eyes" start snappin. Hope the Ice season is as good as last year too....Kaz

Yup, I frequent Ballards a lot. From what I've heard (unfortunately, not first hand reports from me right now) live bait fishing has been really tough for the past week or couple weeks. I'm hoping things will turn around very quickly with some cooler weather getting going. <BR>Scoot

Scoot: I thought you were. Next time up stop over, if I'm up we can have a brew together. My place is the one at 3343 Bur Oak Rd. I drive a white Yukon....Kaz

Kaz and Scoot,<P>Time to dust off the anchors and blow the<BR>dust off of the Jig box. My buddy Dave was<BR>up over the weekend drifting with a jig and<BR>a shiner minnow and caught 20 or so (5 keepers). If he had anchored, I think he<BR>would have done better.<P>Another friend of mine was up drifting with<BR>crawlers and a spinner and got "short bit"<BR>all day and never boated a fish.<P>The little fish are back again, lets remember<BR>to treat em gently was we release the masses<BR>of small fish this fall and winter.<P>Kaz, I am going up this weekend to fish with<BR>my dad if the weather is decent. I will <BR>keep in touch.<BR><P>------------------<BR>Curt Quesnell<BR>NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

Hi Curt: How is the move going?? Unpacked yet?? I was going to be up this weekend, but from the reports I've heard, the shiners are in the river, but the Walleyes haven't made the trip yet. I'm poised to hit the road as soon as the river opens up. I put the SportCRAFT away for the winter, so I won't go out on the big water in the 16' Lund, I'm "Chicken". Been out in it before and with the quick changes in the weather, I think I'll wait a while... Good fishing and let us know how you do.. Larry is a Duck hunter, so I propably be up solo... Take care Kaz

Pop ups have increased for me for a while now.  Timed to cover my usual taps about the time I would tap.

So there is a boat on a friend's property, has been there for about 4 years, with no contact from owner, and she is unreachable. It was last registered in 2020. Is there any way for him to make it his, legally?

I'm getting a lot of popups adds. Just wondering if it's just my computer or is every one getting them?

Birds at home have been quiet and out of sight.  Not sure where they went.  Last year they wouldn’t respond to calls - until they did.  But that will be common until the girls quit being friendly.

I've seen about 60 turkeys in 1.5 days of hunting thus far.  Unfortunately they are not responding to calls or decoys and the only birds that have walked within range are hens.   It's just a waiting game now.  Deer hunting for turkeys, hoping a legal one walks past before I have to quit in a few days...

A bunch of webcams available these days to see progress as well:   https://lakevermilionresorts.com/webcams/   Looks to be pulling away from shore. I expect ice out between next Friday and Sunday based on temps in the forecast.  Some sun and then some wind would get it going quickly.

But wait Meg, there's more!   Anyway, do you like fishing?  Trolling's kind of fun!  🤭

Well lol, Google is your friend! 🤭     Yes, the 2012 movie "Loon Lake" was filmed in Minnesota. Specifically, it was shot in southwest Minnesota, with locations including Round Lake, Pioneer Village, and Jackson County. The film is also based on a local legend from southwest Minnesota about a witch who lived by Loon Lake.

Well indeed there is a movie and the trailer will help you near down the 25 lakes a lot by just checking into the Loon Lakes in Southwest, MN.  Should be easy now. Have fun.    Eager to escape the grief and nightmares of the city, Louis Olsen travels to Southwest Minnesota, seeking the peace of the rural countryside. When he accidentally disturbs the grave of a supposed local 'witch' Mary Jane Terlinden, what began as a peaceful reprieve unravels into a haunting nightmare from which Louis cannot escape - but is it all just in his head?

Great. That's usually a good sign for ice break-up.
