I made it thru about a month ago in a 16' camp boat and it was tight. I don't think the water level has changed much. If you're in a tiller boat I think it's easier to back thru, just go at idle speed and stay way to the left. There is a portage from Boot Bay to the north part of the Elbow but I've never done it.

Tried getting there over Labor Day Weekend. No luck. Water was too low and the current was too fast. If you try, veer towards the port side going in - less rocks.

I haven't been through. Have heard of a few that went in, slow but made it. Have also heard of a few who'll let the "crazy" people go in.<BR>The water is down a few inches from July and word is the lake level may drop some more before freeze up.<BR>Good luck getting in.

Has anyone made their way into Obabikon lake for Crappie's, or anything else for that matter? It's my understanding it's a little tight getting in there with anything over an 18 footer. Let me know. I would like to Portage in from the north with a small boat and give it a try. FYI Turtle Portage handled a 20' Alaskan last weekend. <P>------------------<BR>Hemlock<BR>"Throw'm back"

What works for crappies in Obabikon, pardon the ignorance, just never tried it.

Hemlock,<P>We always use a jig and minnow in Obabikan, Mlies Bay and south of Hay Island when fishing crappies in the fall. we also see lots of others using crappie rigs with minnows. If you portage in from Whitefish Bay, you should check out the South side of Hay Island for crappies. it is just South of Turtle Lake and is less trouble to get to than the Elbow in Obabikan.<BR>

I use crappie rigs with white fuzzy grubs or twister tails on the upper hooks and a minnow on the bottom hook. Sometimes catch two or even three at a time that way. Hey Eastwind, just over two weeks to go, eh?

Eastwind<P>The reason There were so many replys is when I did them they did not show up for a day or two. Miles bay from bottle neck all the way down past the creek had crappies. Look at this journal frm Buena Vista to find out what is going on <A HREF="http://www.livejournal.com/users/buenavista" TARGET=_blank>www.livejournal.com/users/buenavista</A>

Eastwind, <P>Thanks for the info. I'm going to do it, I think I'd portage in from Whitefish through Boot Bay. It's about a mile, and I'd like to take a small boat on a dolly or something. It's not a bad trail at all, and probably could take a 14 footer. It comes out right in the NE corner of Obabikon. Beutiful snowmobile trail too!<P>------------------<BR>Hemlock<BR>"Throw'm back"

I don't think they have fixed much

More playas bite the dust.  Probably at least 5 more by the sounds of the reports.  Gotta be at least the many so I can be out too!

Have faith. You can see progress and ice depth from previous years on the Eagle Docks FB page. They said 16 inches a day or so ago.  A few years back they had 16 inches only a week before official ice out.  60s to even 70s next weekend.  It will be gone before opener. I'm planning on docks and lifts next weekend, but I am in a small protected bay that goes out pretty early.

We need optimism right now. The small bays haven't even opened up yet, which is typically two weeks before the big bays lose their ice. The forecast is in our favor though and I see that it's windy today, also a great sign.

Go to the DMV, see if there's a serial number on it. They should be able to title it

I moved my blind right into the middle of the field after I left this morning.  It sticks out like a sore thumb on the landscape.  A friend advised me to try this.  We'll see if it works later.  I hate the way it looks without blending in, but I have to try something else.

For a long time I've been getting pop-ups and error pages where I have to back page. I just thought it was the price of playing in the old sand lot! 🤔
