why? until morneau comes back, who would you put where delmon is currently batting?

I think as of yesterday Cuddy was 7 for 30. I guess thats better than 5 for 30. Might as well move him up.

Maybe stick Punto in that spot. He can't do any worse than .166 grin

I'd rather base it on season stats rather than last few games. and I think punto just might be up to the task of batting less than .166 for a stretch of a few games.

Over the last 7 games: Cuddy was 9 for 31,,Young was 6 for 34. Don't know what Cuddy has to do with a left field thread though.

In case you missed it the question was whether Young should be moved back down to the 7th spot. Had nothing to do with left field.

Sleds posts have sure slowed down

Sorry, just got back from a kabetogama, rainy, Vermilion fishing trip

Didn't delmon get the game winning RBI yesterday?

Statistically he DID get the game winning rbi.....realistically he hit an EASY dp ball to third, that was dropped, picked up in time to get the force on Mauer at second. So if you are looking for something possitive for Delmon lately.....he got the game winning rbi. Now that his "agent" is back we can expect a little better from Delmon this series.....RIGHT?

and Cuddy continues to struggle in big spots. Only hit that has meaning in the last 10 games,,, hit after Delmon's RBI agst the Indians. Pressure off, Cuudy rocks!!! Pressure on,, Cuddy sends for help.

Seems as though Young may have the same affliction. Looks like his numbers have dropped since he was moved up in the order.

Cuddy is a DP machine and can't hit with RISP. They need to move him to the bottom of the batting order where he belongs. What a waste of $

Yep, I can see what you mean. Cuddy looked terrible tonight, only 4 RBI so far in the 8th inning!

Delmon and his awesome arm threw the ball to absolutely noone tonight. Almost hit the 2nd base ump with it.

Oh well, we're up by 7, I'm not gonna complain too much

LOL, He is the main reason the Twins blew out the other team. Without his RBI's it's not a blow out.

Cuddyer getting a big hit in a big spot in a big game----- even a broken clock is right twice a day. I do like the fact that after dissing Cuddy,, he comes up with a big game. Delmon sucks.

GO TWINS!!!!

I never said he was incapable of getting hits and driving in runs. My point is that he sucks in clutch hit situations. Keep in mind he drove in those runs when the Twins were winning the game. If he gets key hits and drives in runs in crucial at-bats, good, keep him where he is in the lineup, if not, then let someone else have the chance to hit in the middle of the batting order.

delmon bats around .400+ for a month and then drops to hitting .350 the last 30 days for a season avg of .320 and 84 rbi's (6th in the AL)...tough crowd

trying to figure out why he is held to such a high standard but cuddy can hit .295 over the last 30 days to raise his avg to a wopping .274 and have 30 less rbi's then delmon.

dont make me pull out the strike out stats or RISP...I am still waiting for that big hit from Cuddy when were down late in the game with RISP...wait at this point I would take a hit or even a walk from cuddy. Hopefully the walk to face cuddy last night lit a fire under his @ss because he needs something to get him going.

its like some of you want to see one or the other fail? Id rather see them both play well and we go deep in the playoffs.

I guess that intentional walk last nite was proof that Ozzie sees Cuddy the same way many here have. And ya know what? Cuddy came through. But get back to me when he consistently does it. And I hope you have to, cuz then the Twins would be a better team.

Cuddy finally got a couple of big hits last night..... hopefully he will play an unreal stretch like he did last year.... He has been solid at first without Morneau and I hope he keeps it up.

Too bad you weren't paying attention.......Cuddy got on base a LOT in front of Young when was hitting behind him and driving in runs......I said it then, and I'll say it again....Cuddy and Kubel were who Young was driving in a lot, when he was hot.(not lately though)....and yes even in "pressure" situations.

It was obvious last night that Guillen was trying to work their RH pitcher on our RH hitters, while "pitching around" (or IBB) our power lefties. Kubel and Thome, they wanted nothing to do with.

Too bad Young wasn't in the game for Sloweys near no-hitter......that would never have been a subject brought up, because that ball Repko caught Young woulda played into at least a double......

All this Gardy talk on the other 2 threads wouldn't have happened.

  • 2 weeks later...

10 strikeouts in his last 5 games and his average has dropped to .305 from .335 on August 1.

He is 8 for 45 since Aug 18, that's .177

TOUGH MONTH.. I hope he can pick it up! But lets face it... This was going to happen, for all of you guys that had the wool over their eyes after the break saying that he had just hit his stride and Mr. Delmoney was the best hitter in baseball and so on and so on... We should have dumped him before the deadline and picked up a starting pitcher and played Roepko in RF.. Now we have a liability in Left Field AND a liabilty at the plate..

Very low, probably 2 feet lower than last year at ice out.

what do they look like this spring?
    • SkunkedAgain
I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!
    • Brianf.
Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
