I'd appreciate any referrals or guidance with regard to guide services/resorts/camping and/or other suggestions for fishing expedition of 4-5 days set for mid-October.<BR>Thanks!<BR>srs

Just so you are warned, the weather in mid October can get brisk or even snowy that far North. But, I would recomend either Mylie's Resort or Buena Vista resort in Morson, Ontario on Lake of the Woods. Mylie's does not provide their own guides but will set you up with someone. Buena Vista has their own guide service on site. You can expect good crappie fishing in at least three well known spots with the crappies running 3/4# to 1 1/2#. If you hire a guide or know where to look, the walleye fishing can also be good. Their is a party from Indiana that stays at Buena Vista every early October and does really well trollng for muskies. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I am a little suprised by your advice considering the other posts, such as the one at the URL below, that speak highly of LOW fishing in October. Perhaps something on the US side would be more suitable and less risky from a weather perspective.<P><A HREF="http://fishingminnesota.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001671.html" TARGET=_blank>http://fishingminnesota.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/001671.html</A><P>srs

Actually, I did not say that the fishing was not good. I just wanted you to realize that it can be cold or even snowy on LOW, whether you are in U.S. or Canadian waters at that time of year. Some people don't realize that when you are 300 miles North of Minneapolis in October the weather can be quite different. It was a wake up call for me the first time that I went up in October. As for the quality of the fishing, my annual October trip is my favorite of the year. Good luck and have fun.

I second Eastwind's comments about the Oct. trip. The fishing can be great but just be preprared for some early winter weather, but it usually doesn't last more than a day or two. Eastwind - I'll be up in Miles Bay with the wife and white dog the same week you're going, so stop by if you see us.

srs<P>The area of the Lighthouse Gap, Morris<BR>Point Gap, 4 Mile Bay and the Rainy River<BR>have an incredible bite going in October.<P>The area is serviced by dozens of quality<BR>resorts in the area, a couple of them are<BR>sponsors of this website. Call Schusters<BR>Resort or Walleye Retreat and find out about<BR>guided trips. If you have your own boats<BR>you can find the Hotspots easy enough. The<BR>good fishing spots are close by and numerous.<P>Lake of the Woods area Chamber of Commerce<BR>in Baudette can give you more info.<P>Classic Jig and Shiner minnow pattern out<BR>of an anchored boat. Bonus Sturgeon, monster Pike and a few Pout to keep it interesting.<P>All in US water, no border hassle, no bait<BR>hassle, no exchange rate hassle.<P>October can get chilly bring some warm clothes.<P>You ought to have a blast!!!!!!!<P>------------------<BR>Curt Quesnell<BR>NorthCountry Outdoors Radio<p>[This message has been edited by curt quesnell (edited 09-01-2003).]

Thank you, Curt!<P>I'm looking forward to some great fishing and as I'm a total novice I'm looking forward to learning from you and others.<P>One additional query -- boat related. Do you or others have make/type preferences, i.e. Alumacraft/Lund etc and fiberglass/aluminum etc., and what too look for and look out for when evaluating a used boat.<BR>Many thnaks,<BR>srs

srs,<P>Brand of boat isnt all that big of a deal.<P>It depends on how you weigh comfort to <BR>performance. Big, small you will see them<BR>all out fishin in the fall. (hey that rhymes)<P>You will not be fishing the "big" water in<BR>October or traveling all that far (unless you<BR>decide to for the adventure).<P>The big thing is dependability, it will be<BR>cold and messin with motors and trailers and<BR>vehicles will really suck!<P><P>------------------<BR>Curt Quesnell<BR>NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

I don't think they have fixed much

More playas bite the dust.  Probably at least 5 more by the sounds of the reports.  Gotta be at least the many so I can be out too!

Have faith. You can see progress and ice depth from previous years on the Eagle Docks FB page. They said 16 inches a day or so ago.  A few years back they had 16 inches only a week before official ice out.  60s to even 70s next weekend.  It will be gone before opener. I'm planning on docks and lifts next weekend, but I am in a small protected bay that goes out pretty early.

We need optimism right now. The small bays haven't even opened up yet, which is typically two weeks before the big bays lose their ice. The forecast is in our favor though and I see that it's windy today, also a great sign.

Go to the DMV, see if there's a serial number on it. They should be able to title it

I moved my blind right into the middle of the field after I left this morning.  It sticks out like a sore thumb on the landscape.  A friend advised me to try this.  We'll see if it works later.  I hate the way it looks without blending in, but I have to try something else.

Im getting a ton of them also. So bad that I have to back out of the site and retry. Anyway to prevent them?

For a long time I've been getting pop-ups and error pages where I have to back page. I just thought it was the price of playing in the old sand lot! 🤔
