yup, CUDDY gets on...Young drives him in....FROM THE 8th spot. Good job Gardy!! #1-3 were 2 for 14? not hard to figure out why Morneau's rbi # have slowed down. I want ALL our TWIN'S to take 3 days off for the all-star break. Get some rest!

Did everyone see that missed call at 3B last night? Yikes, I'm not a fan of replay but MLB umps sure aren't helping their cause.

I realize it didn't impact the outcome, but I was almost more upset by that blown call than the loss. Granted, Cuddy could have applied the tag a little more forcefully, but if the runner is throw out by 10 feet and makes no attempt to avoid the tag, it's relatively safe to assume he's out.

Yeah, tough loss. The blown call didn't matter as it turned out....Great game through 26 Tampa Bay outs.

What is the deal with umpires this year getting the easy calls so wrong? I was just stunned by how bad the umpiring has been this year... Detroit got scrooged a couple of time badly (perfect game fiasco and Mile off the plate strike out of Damon) seen some ugly calls before but there have been some GLARING bad calls this year (and last year playoffs if you count the Mauer "foul" ball... Is it the game is too fast now or is it the umpires get imbedded in the system and don't keep pushing to improve?

The system for umpires doesn't seem to address poor performance... We still see the same umps making bad calls game after game year after year...

Just because he has been an ump for 20 years doesn't mean he still can't blow calls. If a major league player blows plays he gets released or sent down, why not umpires?

"...and in other news, Jim Joyce and Joe West were demoted to AAA umpiring while Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder were brought up to take their place..."

And you can add that wack-a-do from last night to the mix. Worst call I have EVER seen. Regardless of the non-impact it had on that game, it could have easily affected them tonight had Duensing not been so efficient with his pitches (i.e., he may not have been available for tonight).

THAT WAS HORRIBLE! Do umps get fined for blowing calls like that? I am sure Gardy will get fined for getting tossed. I am not saying you can't have an off moment, we all do, but come on!

And when are the Twins gonna thump in 10 runs for Pavano? Guy pitches his a-- off every game and never gets run support! Runs will be at a premium tonight against Price, that's for sure.

Could you please also send Alfonso Marquez

I guess he did pay us back last night wink

How about they move the Mauer down in the order. Way to many chances and nothing to show for it. Long fly balls do nothing for the club but make outs.

His nick name will NEVER be Clutch

Maybe the Kemp's kid or Milk and Cookies kid

Sorry about the rant but just a little PO'd at the so called horse's

I think they need a little wakeup call.

I agree about Mauer, move him down to #6, for now, til he gets hot again(he will). The problem is who has the proper skills for #3? .....I would try valentia, he is hitting liners, and they are falling in often.

Nice boot, Cuddyer. I think they were better off hiding him at 3B. His error on a catch any major league OF should make opens up a big inning for the Rays. Kudos to Gardenhire also for needlessly pulling Liriano, who was cruising, and enabling the Rays to catch up.

Re: Mauer

If you've actually watched the games, you know that Mauer has had a ridiculously high number of very hard-hit outs. Over the course of time, those will find gaps instead of gloves. He's swinging fine.

Cuddys hitting is affecting his fielding. Ball pops out then his throw sails over the infielders head

arrrrrggggggghhhhhhhh! thought I had gotten over this game then read the star trib article on the game. can't believe cuddy's boot was ruled a double instead of an error. getting about to the point where you got to wonder why he has to be in the lineup every stinking game. he's been all about making suggestions to gardy about playing himself in other spots to supposedly help the lineup out and maybe it's time he suggests to gardy that he replace ulger for a week or two at least against right handed pitching and see if that helps the team.

WOW!

Just to nit-pick a little Delmons never ever going to be a complete player. He's arguably the worst base runner/Fielder in MLB and while I'm hopeful its highly unlikely that will change anytime soon..

On a side note he sure is clutch even when he's been a bit off of late with the bat!

Go Delmon!

No...but his bonehead mantle is doing quite well in his short career to date as far `as base running and fielding blunders/bloopers go!...LMAO!

Oh and add one hit to Punto's Average thanks to Delmons pee-wee little league mistake on the hit to right field the other day! smile

judging from the comments to sid's story, it looks like the posters at the tribune aren't too pleased with cuddy's performance either. one poster had some stats on cuddy. I didn't check to see if they were correct or not, but if those stats are correct, his couple big months that he had last season look like they were more or less a fluke.

sure hope he can turn it around the last half of the year and put up numbers similar to late last season. got a dinger last night so keep your fingers crossed.

Maybe they flip-flopped, Cuddys hot second half and Delmons hot first half- we'll see

I'm a lot more concerned with Mauers batting average being down 70 points then cuddys 15 points along with having less RBI's then Cuddy who we all know is struggling.

But yeah we get the Cuddy bashers frustration from last year and if Cuddy goes hitless the rest of the year we'll always have those special 2 months where....never mind... grin

I think Gardy is having a hard time adjusting to a different style of twins baseball. No more buntin and runnin etc.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
