Cuddyer on a tear!

Delmon has been on fire and deserves a pat on the back for starting to reach his potential. Every ball that came near him was hit hard this last trip. Most came off his bat, but you know your hot when you have line drives bouncing out of your glove and off your shin. laugh Absolutely a great throw to gun the guy out at home the other day. It would have been better if he caught the ball first though.

Delmon is starting to show what we hoped for when the trade was made and possibly even starting to become a little more professional at the plate. Still a little free with the swings but definately heading in a better direction. He goes inside out with his swing when he should whereas before he did that with everything. Heck, he even runs better. He used to run like he was trying not to break a potato chip stuck in his backside. Now he runs like the chip has already broke.

That said, if I have to win one game today and had to choose between Cuddy and Delmon, I am taking Cuddyer.

Sled, you act like Delmon doesn't take bad hacks, if you really think that, you must not watch him when he is at the plate. Technically, every batter does it.

at this point in the 2010 season, think it's safe to say that delmon is basically the best rh bat on the team, especially if he comes to the plate with runners on base. his averages with runners on base or in scoring position are better than when the bases are empty. cuddy does much better with the bases empty and his stats with runners on base are not good at all. I don't think it will ever happen with gardy as mgr, but it's nearing the point where if kubel is going to play in the field against right handed pitching, there has to be consideration for rotating out cuddy instead of delmon because he's handling rh pitching very well so far too.

trading go go was probably the best thing that could have happened to delmon. the guy simply needed to get at bats to gain confidence and playing a couple times a week like he was being used the last couple of seasons didn't do him much good (other than maybe convincing him to get in better shape.)

hopefully after the break, cuddy will pick it up. don't want to hate on him because team needs a couple guys from the right side to get those important rbi's.

If you suffered through the Michael Cuddy thread like Sled did last year you'd be tooting your horn also for Delmon who IMO opinion is the comeback player of the year hands down. I know he's not going to be up for that award but if you factor in all aspects of his game and attitude he's transformation is astonishing to this point. The trade was still a bust but at least Delmon is on the right track.

As far as clutch hitting Cuddyer settled that non-sense last fall and a select few "2" in here can't come to Grips with it which is sad!

I like to root for ALL our players unlike some in here!!!!

Go Cuddy/Delmon/Twins!

What did he do????? another error?????I don't have the game on.

I checked stats today, and saw some interesting things.....Even after Young's "hot streak" Cuddy leads him in OBP,SLUGGING,and BA. All are averages so it doesn't matter AB, or GAMES played. But the best one? Young's OBP is .316, compared to Punto's .298......very close. Should bat Young 9th, cause he can drive people in ....IF they pitch near the plate....and with top of the order coming up , they probably would.

time to move the DEL to the 5th slot

.279 7 35

.276 7 30

food for thought

What difference will it make? Those numbers look identical to me.

Maybe Delmon has a few more RBI because Cuddy is in front of him and moves runners into scoring position.

Numbers MAY look the same, but when you figure in Plate appearances/AB

PA AB HR RBI runners on base when batting

Delmon 198 179 7 35 156

Cuddy 246 221 7 30 212

**Cuddy has had a TON of opportunities to drive in runs... I'm not saying you bench him, but moving Delmon to the 5 and sending Cuddy down to 7 is a minor change that could pay BIG dividends. Remember we traded a #1 starter for this guy and his upside is supposed to be big... we might as well let him start becoming the star we think he should be. I like Cuddy, but right now he isn't getting it done and the numbers seem pretty obvious to me

What's with Cuddy misplaying the caroms off the wall lately? I know the ballpark is new and the outcropping limestone is tricky but c'mon. If the ball is over your head, hold up and play the carom. DeJesus played it like it was his home ballpark last night. I bet Cuddy gets some practice out there this afternoon.

"Maybe Delmon has a few more RBI because Cuddy is in front of him and moves runners into scoring position."

if you compare their averages with runners on base and runners in scoring position, you'll then see that the above statement isn't the case. I don't know if flip flopping these two in the batting lineup would help the team or not but wouldn't complain if they tried it. maybe cuddy and punto need to have one of their infamous discussions on the bus and suggest this to gardy and while they are at it suggest to gardy that punto may be best served as a utility guy and to go get a different full time 3b.

Q:..Why would you put someone who gets on base more then the other guy in front of the guy who has a higher on base percentage?

A: You wouldn't be that dumb!

Gardy is one of the best and he won't make that move. Yes I understand the 3 of you's embarrassment from last year regarding Cuddy who finished 22nd in the American League in the MVP voting and frankly, down the stretch at the most important time, was more key to us getting to the play-offs than Mauer was.

Anyway haters aside.....

I think Delmon's in good spot with a lot of good, patient hitters in front of him and Gardy knows he's comfortable batting where he is in his semi part time role.

We did bump him "del" up in the line-up last year in the playoffs and Gardy along with the rest of saw how that went "1-13" and 0-9 with runners on.

Also Cudderys well hit average is better than Youngs!

Let me know if theres anything else I can help with..HATERS!

One last thing.

For the millionth time.

Professional managers don't make Knee-jerk panic decisions based on short term samplings.

Sorry it is what it is guys and there's nothing you can do about it... grin

That was the most entertaining loss of the year last night, if that makes any sense. Lots of fight in this team, and that is great to see. Cuddy smacked it hard at the end. Kind of hard to come down on him when so many other guys botched it for us early. Why no digs on Span for base running errors, Punto for regular errors, or Baker for lousy pitching? It's baseball--it has ups and downs. I for one think everyone has a bad night from time to time and Cuddy does far more good than not. It's deflating to see a great rally fall short, but it was a terrific effort and I applaud this team for not giving up when it was 8 to 1! What a comeback!

What is the definition of "well hit average"? Not saying I disagree with you on that particular stat but just don't know what that means. Can you post a link to those averages?

Cuddy has 1 better than good half of baseball in his career and finishes in the top 100 in voting and now he's above being moved in the line-up, and we should all be eating crow? If he was to be moved in the line-up it wouldn't be knee jerk, many other managers shuffle their line ups successfully all the time, Many players benefit from such moves.

While I am not in the boat to panic with Cuddyer yet, I completely agree with this principal. A few years back when we still had Jason Bartlett, we has a struggling hitter in the number...8 hole I believe. Be it through injury or hunch, he was moved to the #2 spot, and I think that alone catapulted him over the edge. He went on a hitting tear and never really turned back that year. Is this the answer for Cuddy? I am not convinced yet. Last time I checked, we are 4.5 games in first, so I think we are doing something right!

Are you referring to last year's 2nd half of the season?

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st

As I get older it's really not just about sending bullets down range.  Some of it's just the workmanship of the gun and the wow factor. The other two guns I have really wanted which I'll never have now because of their price, is a 8mm Jap Nambu and 9mm German Luger.   Just thought they always looked cool!

I had a guy hit me with a lightly used 1969 BAR, he wanted $1650 with an older Leupold scope. More than I think they are worth, I made an offer, he declined end of story.   You know if you look at the old brochures, a grade II BAR sold for $250 in the late 60s, $1650 would be a good return on your investment.    Why would anybody want a 50 year old gun, they are heavy, have wood stocks, and blued metal.  I guess mainly to keep their gun safes glued to the floor. lol   You can probably buy a stainless rifle that you never have to clean, with a synthetic stock you never have to refinish, is as light as a feather, and for half as much money, perfect.   I'm too old for a youth gun, although I've shrunk enough that it would probably fit. lol   No Ruger 10/44s.   Jim
