Does anybody have any advice for catching crappies on LOW in the Morson area in late September? Depth, bait...anything would be appreciated. I will be staying at Mylie's Place. Thank in advance.

I usually have the best luck with a small jig head and a 1-1/2 inch tube. Colors such as black and chart. white and yellow, red and chart., etc, seem to do the trick. The colors seem to vary from year to year. A sinker several feet up from the jig will get it down faster.
The fish are usually in 20 - 25 ft, use a depth finder to locate the schools.
Obabikon Lake, Miles Bay, and Hay Island are major areas to try, just look for "the fleet".
Good luck.

Normally through September the crappies will be found in the Elbow out of Obabikon Lake. As it gets latter in to September and October the crappies are found in the Northeast end of Miles Bay, out of Bottleneck Bay and Thomson Creek, and the South end of Hay Island. We will be at Mylies' the weekend of October 3rd, if you are still there we will be the group with a tan Crestliner and a white and green Warrior.

Hey guy's, I just spent last week up in northeastern LOW, we stayed at a resort out on an island (un-named). We fished the Miles bay area mostly with minimal luck! Our resort owner recomended we not go into obabikon lake cuz of the low water levels entering the lake, the party I was with usually goes in there and has some pretty good luck with the eye's and crappies. On saturday the resort owner guided a guy and his son into obabikon lake and they had some pretty good fishing, they returned to the resort that afternoon with 30 crappies and 7 decent eye's. So I think the crappie bite is probly just starting to get good up there, they were using jig heads tipped with crawlers, hope this help's. ricbak

Ricbak,
I wiil be heading up in several weeks. My concern re: Obabikon is (assuming I can get in) that a strong north wind during the day could possibly drop the water level enough to make getting out difficult for some hours until the lake "relevels" itself. Is that perhaps the reason the resort owner suggested that you not go there?
Thanks
I think he was just wanting us to be cautious and stay away from the rock's, but heck the whole lake is down 4 feet, we went up and looked at the enterance and you could see the rocks but you can still get in if you are using a trolling motor. i think even with a north wind you could get in and out with caution. I will say this, they had some dandy size crappies and the eye's ran about 1.5 lbs. maybe by the time you head up they will have had some ran to help you out a bit more. hope this helps and good luck, ricbak

I went into Obabikon in July and the water level is about the same now as it was then. Just stay way to the left and you'll be ok. Hey Eastwind, we'll be up again for about nine days in early Oct., so stop by if you see a couple with a white dog in the boat.

Hey Rckwll,
Are you the guy I talked to a couple of times while I was fishing the Northwest end of Miles last October?

Eastwind, Yes, I'm the guy with the wife and white dog in the camp boat that talked with you up in Miles Bay last Oct. We'll be up this Oct. 3 -12 and will look for you again. What dates will you be up there?

I will also be up there that same week looking for some crappies. the last time I was up was late July. I had a group of people staying at Mylies that wanted some crappies. We shot up to "The Elbow" and they were going strong even in late July. We trolled your typical Mylies spinners and bottom bouncers. I was only up for a short weekend to show them around and we limited out every day I was there. They stayed a few more days with my GPS and found them for the next three days. I did here from a few people that live up there that there are some nets running up there now.

Rcwll,
We will be on the water the 4th, 5th and 6th. I will look for you at the crappie spots or up in Miles Bay. Four weeks to go!

Eastwind
What channel do you use when you go Lake of the Wood the first weekend of October. I know you have a tan Crestliner and I did talk to you last year once. I just got back from Lake of the Woods on Sunday the 7th and the Crappie fishing is very good.

There’s critters out and about. Get yourself some cellular trail cams and you’ll see.

It wouldn't be the first time I've heard the USS Skunked Again breaking ice! I left this morning, the rain really did a number to the ice. I'll bet the Partridge River will be open by the weekend.

My yard is pretty open, but narrow. I think I'll be fine with reception in the areas I'm thinking. I try to keep the hill somewhat natural, but my wife wants to see the lake better. The video's I've watched, they have topped the trees and mounted the dish. I would this the swaying would affect the signal. Does Starlink help you with using WiFi for calling? My T-Mobile service sux at the cabin. Did you bury your cable?

I'm on the wide part of the channel going in to Black Bay. We won't see Paul B. For years.

Welcome back. Wow it's been since 2018 it looks like. Did you ever "I'm tightening up my footprint and want to build on my Bozeman lot on the Gallatin"? 😏

You're probably right. This isn't official since I've already lost, but I'll make my supplemental guess for May 6th since it's still open. 😄 As long as I can snake my way along the shore and/or plow through some dark ice on the 8th, I'll be happy. I love aluminum boats!

For all of my "problems" with getting a clear signal it's worth it. I can spend more time at the lake because I can work during the day and play or get things done at night. Toss in that I can record and watch a football/hockey/basketball game when I'm done at the end of the day....priceless. Like your place, our property is more natural and I was worried about having to cut down a bunch of trees. I like that people have to get up close to see our place from the lake through the trees. Luckily I didn't have to do much to get enough a signal that works for me. If I needed to be on video calls, I probably would run the dish down to the shore to get a better view of the sky. BTW - the main problem with mounting the dish on a tree is that the tree still has a canopy that will block the signal. The best option would be to top a tree and then mount it on the clear-cut top.
