Hey
I was wondering if anyone knew any good spots for carp in the mankato area. The only spots I know of right now are the Rapidam dam and some spots in the river.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They were all over the place on Madison last weekend spawning. Nothing real big though - I'd say the biggest we saw were in the 15 lb. category.

If one is willing to travel East, they can always tangle with the giant carp of Lake Tetonka.

Just pick any lake

Hiniker pond has some real nice ones but they are spooky because the water tends to be clearer than area lakes.

well if u want to travel a bit down to new ulm there is about 4 great places for carp right in town that are easly accesable from shore, Minnecon park, the culvert at riverside park or the bend in the river in between the two parks that is accesible via a trail from minnecon. also the Quarrys on highway 14 coming into town are great for big carp and monster cats

There is a good spot maybe a mile south of the Judson bridge on the Minnesota river. There is a public access with a concrete ramp right near the bridge. As you head down the river, you eventually pass under some very large power lines (with the river so high, it might be a litte spooky). You can actually hear the lines humming as you pass under them. A few hundred feet after the power lines the river gets shallow and the current picks up. There are a few very large logs on the south side. I suspect these logs are mostly submerged at the moment, but as the river level drops, they should become more apparent. Drop a bait next to these logs and you will almost certainly hook into a giant carp. My son caught one that I'm sure went almost 20 pounds. I use night crawlers. Of course, for all I know, you could probably drop a bait anywhere in that river and get a huge carp. But, this particular log pile always seems to hold plenty of carp and small catfish. I've had some success with larger catfish (5 pounds) at the same location by casting a chicken heart into the middle of the river.
