Thinking about going this weekend to Reeds Lake by Elysian. Wondering how's the bite there? Panfish? Pike?

That lake was pretty low last time I helped a friend of mine to put the dock in this spring. almost 3 feet low. How's the water there now?

I have not been there this year, but I am sure that with all of the rain the level is up. I find this to be a good panfish and bass lake. One of the better areas is the east end. There is alot of good vegetaion for the fish to use. You should also be able to find a northern or two. Scum frogs and Picasso spinnerbaits is what we use out there. Run your spinnerbait over the submergent vegetation letting it just tick the vegetation.

Clay,

You're right about Reeds being a good bass lake. I've caught some pretty good sized bass in there. Last year I stayed out at a friend of mine's cabin there and had a blast fishing for pike and bass also for panfish too! By accident I caught a 26 inch walleye there. My friend thought that was unheard of till I showed him in my livewell. And I released it. I'd never heard of any walleyes in Reeds till last year when I boated on fishing for crappies.

About 10 years ago a companion caught a walleye on a buzz bait in there. Thats a first.

Flip,

When I caught that walleye, I was trolling small spinnerbait with a fathead for crappies. At first I thought it was a northern till I saw the fin came up to the surface.

When was that lake stocked with Walleye? Was it ever stocked?
I'm not very familiar to Reeds. I've only fished there about 3 years now..I like it. It's quiet and peacefull.

Every winter you hear of a 3 lb crappie coming out of Reeds Lake. Quite often accidently by someone fishing tip-ups and shiners for northerns. I saw a mount of one caught 2 winters ago that was 3 lbs 9 oz out of Reeds.

James,

You're right. It seems that the crappies are big in the winter time. Just last winter, I went with my father-in-law and caught our limit of dandy sized crappies from Reeds.

But funny thing is we went back out there the next night and they wouldn't bite! I think it's because the winds had shifted to east. We've never had this good since that night.
Can't wait till the ice freezes again! grin.gif

Is it a deep water bite when you find them mountaindew??

James,

No, it was in 15 feet of water there. Using pink teareye drop with minnow.

If it's Pike your after, try white or chartreuss spinner baits anywhere there are lilly pads especially on the south end by the landing. Panfish will be at the break on the east side, the break runs north/south.

My son got paid back for a good deed he did several years ago. He found a couple of expensive items at a boat ramp and called me asking what he should do.   I told him to bring them home because I was afraid if someone else found them, they might keep them. It was winter and nobody was around. This was when Facebook wasn't really popular yet, I was on several sites like this. First thing we did was make a big sign and posted it at the boat launch, then I posted it on all the forums I was on. Long story short, we never found the owner, but we sure tried. I know to this day, if either one of us found something, we'd do our best to get it back to the rightful owner.

Yes, for sure.     A few years back, and unbeknownst to me, a piece of trim came off my sled while traveling over the lake.  A fellow sledder and complete stranger found the piece and followed my tracks all the way back to my cabin to return the lost item.  Couldn't thank him enough.  His kindness will never be forgotten and is something to which I aspire.

We got the auger back! The person who found it didn't want me to mention his name, we can't thank him enough! Still good, honest people around. He called Spring Bay Resort and asked if they heard of anyone losing an auger and they sent him a screenshot of my post. So, thanks to Dayis and Steve at Spring Bay Resort for that! Thanks again everyone for getting the auger back to us!

Who’s been out? I got hit with the flu and am still recovering.

That's what they're going to do. I always read these posts and wondered how people could lose or forget stuff, well it happens!

Dang….  I know it’s your son, so kinda different, but I’d be expecting a replacement from those who lost it.  The group could each put in and wouldn’t hit one or another too bad.   But that’s just an old man’s thoughts….💭    Good luck.

So my son and buddies were out this morning fishing between Wakemup and H.O.L. Bays (probably between Metza's pt and Schmidt Island), so they had to cross the snowmobile trail to The Landing. Well,  MY Strikemaster 24 volt auger fell off the back of my sled.  They didn't realize it until they got back. If anyone found it, would be nice to get back...please and thank you. Good news is they had the battery in their pocket..... Dip $hits😡
