I am looking for some advice for the fall walleye/northern bite. I usually come up in the winter multiple times, but have yet to come up in the fall on open water. I have a small 14' boat with a 25 hp motor on it so I can't venture too far out on the pond if it's windy. Should we stick around the Wheeler's Pt. area and fish there and the river, or would we be better going over on the Warroad side. Any info on areas to fish and what's hot at that time of year would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys and good luck to all!

MG, when will you be up this way?

MG
You'll have quite a few options during that mid september timeframe. Shiners start to show up around the gaps and in the river, with the Walleyes close behind. Gets better as we get into October but jigging around the gaps or out from Pine and in the river gets fish. Probably most protected and fishable if the wind comes up with a smaller boat over here. Muskeg bay has active fish during this timeframe too....5-mile, the S.tip, Elm, South shore and spots around Springsteel can all be good. Here you could baitfish or pull lures. Pulling lures anywhere from Pine all the way over to the Longpoint area is another option at this time that can get fish too, shallow as 6-8 foot and out deeper. People still get fish on the mainlake reefs and out in the basin too, but you won't want to travel that far. Broad info I know but it's kind of a time of transition up here as the fish are falling into their fall patterns. Any/all of these options can get fish good. Maybe if you're up here for a couple days you could pick the day with favorable wind predictions to fish the westside, and spend the other day near the gaps? Get a taste of a couple of different areas anyways.
Something you may want to do is....Go back to the main LOTW forum page, up near the top right corner is the 'show topics from' preference box, this is set at 60 days usually. Click the dropdown and hi-lite 'show topics from last year' or 'show all topics' and hit go.....This will let you then go back to check reports and such from years prior.
Regards....fiskyknut
Fisky-
Thanks so much for all of the info. I've read your post in the past and you're a very knowledgable guy when it comes to LOTW. It's really great that there are guys like you on FM that are willing to share info on your home lake at the drop of a hat. Hopefully all goes well and everything will work out. I absolutely love LOTW and want to make that my home lake one of these years. I have to stick down in the cities in the meantime to keep the cash a flowin' so I can support my hobbies ya know. Anyways, thanks again and take care.
MG

Pop ups have increased for me for a while now. Timed to cover my usual taps about the time I would tap.

So there is a boat on a friend's property, has been there for about 4 years, with no contact from owner, and she is unreachable. It was last registered in 2020. Is there any way for him to make it his, legally?

I'm getting a lot of popups adds. Just wondering if it's just my computer or is every one getting them?

Birds at home have been quiet and out of sight. Not sure where they went. Last year they wouldn’t respond to calls - until they did. But that will be common until the girls quit being friendly.

I've seen about 60 turkeys in 1.5 days of hunting thus far. Unfortunately they are not responding to calls or decoys and the only birds that have walked within range are hens. It's just a waiting game now. Deer hunting for turkeys, hoping a legal one walks past before I have to quit in a few days...

A bunch of webcams available these days to see progress as well: https://lakevermilionresorts.com/webcams/ Looks to be pulling away from shore. I expect ice out between next Friday and Sunday based on temps in the forecast. Some sun and then some wind would get it going quickly.

But wait Meg, there's more! Anyway, do you like fishing? Trolling's kind of fun! 🤭

Well lol, Google is your friend! 🤭 Yes, the 2012 movie "Loon Lake" was filmed in Minnesota. Specifically, it was shot in southwest Minnesota, with locations including Round Lake, Pioneer Village, and Jackson County. The film is also based on a local legend from southwest Minnesota about a witch who lived by Loon Lake.

Well indeed there is a movie and the trailer will help you near down the 25 lakes a lot by just checking into the Loon Lakes in Southwest, MN. Should be easy now. Have fun. Eager to escape the grief and nightmares of the city, Louis Olsen travels to Southwest Minnesota, seeking the peace of the rural countryside. When he accidentally disturbs the grave of a supposed local 'witch' Mary Jane Terlinden, what began as a peaceful reprieve unravels into a haunting nightmare from which Louis cannot escape - but is it all just in his head?

Great. That's usually a good sign for ice break-up.
