"Minneapolis" Vikings

CFRay

Recommended Posts

I just saw a TV news story that Mpls. Mayor and Gov. wannabe, R.T. Ryback, will require the Vikings to change the name from Minnesota to Minneapolis Vikings if any Minneapolis city tax money is used to fund a new Vikings stadium.

Way to bring us all together and form a consensus to get something good accomplished Mr. R.T.

LOL! I don't blame him. The City already is supporting the twins so why not get some more recognition for the city. Its better than the LA Vikings or whatever city that is.

What I don't get is with one of these plans for a new stadium they want to use the existing tax that is used or the convention center after it runs out in 2020. Why don't they use the existing tax that was created for the Metrodome I think its still in effect though it was supposed to have been repealed ounce the Dome was paid off.

This is just another shell game to jam another stadium down our throats. Even if they go the route of the convention center tax the way they keep revamping the convention center they will have to again create a new tax for renovations.

Agreed!! Considering all of us in the metro are paying for the Twin's stadium (and probably will for the Vikes as well) not sure what he is thinking. Not surprised considering some of the crazy stuff he has done already!!!

We use to be the phoenix cardinals but people asked to have it changed to the az cards because the whole state supports them not just phoenix.

I think the Twins stadium is funded by Hennepin county not the entire metro.

Must have gotten mixed up on that one. So according to Rybak's logic they shoud be called the Hennepin Twins. Glad I moved from Hennepin to Dakota County then, I pay too much in taxes to subsidize millionaires!!! smile

but the taxes paid to fund the stadium also help and helped produce alot of jobs and a better "quality of life" for people in the county or so they say.....but I think it is a sales tax that was added to hennepin county (i could be wrong ) but if that is the case then all that visit and spend $ in hennepin county are funding the stadium

Not sure how I benefited living in SW Bloomington, 20 miles away from the stadium!

This is a different discussion, though.

Wouldn't worry too much about it, they all say the same thing, doesn't matter on sport or market. There's about 8 teams that are in the same boat or worse. There is only one good market currently open - LA. We are the 16th biggest market in the Country and there are 32 teams, do the math on that one. The Jags or Chargers are the front runners for LA.

And LA has had a few flops in history already, so why would they pull a team out of a market that has sold out every game for many years, sometimes with help, but that doesnt matter.

Its about time you crawled out from under that log Brian! It only took 5 months after the Vikes put the last whoopin on those cheesheads. Them losses must have really taken you down grin .So it looks as though we have about 6 months to enjoy your posts, before the Vikes lay on the next whoopin, and you go into hiding again wink

LOL I Love it!!! I had to sell my computer cuz the taxes are so dang high in this dumb state!!!

We both know that Favre saved your season. And the NFL got the right refs together to screw over the best QB that ever lived. Just so everyone that feels sorry for New Orleans could have their 2 weeks of fame. What a joke!!! Glad Im not a Queens fan!!! I will enjoy your posts though....

LA is the 2nd largest market in the country and has no team. The NFL would love to get a team there. Not necessarily the Vikings, but they would love to get a team there. Why you ask?? MONEY, MONEY, AND MORE MONEY!!!!

LA is about to build a $800 million dollar privately funded stadium, just to wooo an NFL team.

By the way... I think they should be the Lakeville Vikings.

If a penny of the stadium comes out of the pockets of Minnesotans, which will happen... leave the name how it is. Get over yourself Minneapolis.

I think there are several names that would work better than Minneapolis

  • Climax Vikings
  • Embarrass Vikings
  • Fertile Vikings
  • Nimrod Vikings
  • Savage Vikings
  • Sleepy Eye Vikings

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
