Anyone ever target catfish in the area lakes? I suppose the little bulheads would be a nuisance if I give it a try! I've seen a couple older threads that mentioned them and was wondering if someone could give me a tip or two?

I spent a lot of time on the Minnesota, BlueEarth, and Watonwan Rivers and got to know them pretty well, but I would't know where to start on a lake or local rivers (if they're there)?

Any tip, big or small, would be appreciated!!

There are channel cats in the Cannon river and lakes it flows through. The bigger cats I have caught came from Cannon Lake nears narrows and bridges...all channels. Biggest was about 7 lbs. I seem to have caught most of them in the dark. Below the King Mill dam in Faribault and east of the fairgrounds where the Cannon and Straight river come together is another spot. There are some channel cats in Sakata as well, but they were all accidental catches while fishing for walleyes.

Lake Volney Had some large Catfish brough in to control the carp. Some were very large! C+R only.Thank you very much.
Lake Volney is a small lake but deep for this part of the state. They say it was around 120' at the end of the 1800. Now it's half that. Some peaple in the area are working hard to fix the lake and clean up the water. The Catfish are just one part of it.
The spring from Lake Volney flows out to the Cannon river just north of Lake Gorman. The area in between is (or was) a large wet land marsh. Years ago a drainage ditch was made from Volney to the Cannon River. Now when the Cannon goes up,with out the wet lands to work like a filter it back washes into Volney.
If any one would like to know more post a message here and I'll find the contacts for you.
I think it would be a good thing to do.

Thanks fellas,
I definatly appreciate the input! I plan on giving it a try a few times and see if it's worth the effort. Even if I don't hook many, or any, oh well thats fishing. Just like to try new things!!

Thanks again!
