I was just out on Washington yesterday 2/28 for the JaC's fishing contest and the ice was still about 16 inches or so. It was slushy and wet on top with some standing water in spots. Someone at the contest said that they had broken through with a larger vehicle while driving near the shore. There were several full sized trucks and SUV's out on the ice yesterday though. Personally I like to walk out this time of year. It's still plenty safe for that! Hope this helps.

Thanks, that's all the info I needed, I just haven't had the chance to get out in a while and didn't know what to expect. I like to lean of the side of caution when we've had weather like this too...time to walk for me.

How are the ice conditions around area lakes, are any of the acceses melted out on lakes such as Washington, Madison, German, Tetonka, French etc.?

Was on Cedar on 2/27. About 20" of ice with the top 3" milky colored and then clear all the way to the bottom. Lake access had standing water & slush but you could drive around it.
