The Guides were out last week-end in full force down rigging on Long Point. My partner was up Thursday/Sunday and did good. Listen to channels 12, 82, that will tell you where they are. He said it looked like the Navy was on maneuvers out there, lots of boats. I think bait fishing is over for a little while until the shinners start their move into the shallows.....Kaz

That trolling bite has been going great for the past few weeks in numerous spots on the Big Traverse. 31-32 foot has been producing very well for us. Fishing the mainlake reefs has also been great if you don't wanna troll hardbaits. Bouncer/spinner with a crawler or leech, or slipbobberin are both working well. Alot of BIG fishes being caught doing either. Take your pick!
Weather permitting you should hammer them good!
Fisky

I was up last weekend fishing on a launch from the River Bend and we hammered the big eyes both days we went out. We had a hard time catching fish below the 19.5 inch slot. Our group of six caught many, many, walleyes! We released 35 fish over five pounds and 10 fish over eight pounds. We kept four wall hangers a 29" two 30" and one 30.5". It was a good weekend off of Long Point.

Milkdud: Who was driving on your charter?? Was Glen?? I'll be up on the 8th thru 12th, and pulling plugs wherever I need to go. ...Kaz
------------------
KAZ

Kaz, Les Lemm was driving the charter! He can put you on fish!!!!

Milkdud don't you think taking 4 wall hangers is a little over kill. Also who was the best fisherman in your group when you were down rigging, is it just like winning the lottery for the bigest fish. (Well the rods tripped, who is up to reel it in)

Milkdud: I don't know Les very well, but Glen and I share what's going on. My place is a 9 iron from there Resort... Good food too!!!....Kaz

JZ,One resort also posted they kept nine wallhangers in one weekend!!Thats only one of how many?I know LOW's is a big lake!I have a trailer on the pond but mostly fish it winter.I don't mean to disrespect anyone, I'd just rather catch'em on a 30" jig stick.I hope they leave a few for this winter!!!Good cannonballin' Jigster

Les Lemm is fantastic! One of the hardest
working guides on the lake. If you get
him for your guide you'd better figure on
having a turn running the boat because Les
will be back tending the riggers, changing
crankbaits and helping with fish.
I think Glen Voytilla is the best on the
lake but right behind him are a pack of
great guides including Les, Glens son Brian
and Danny Basher.
Milkdud, congratulations on your sucessful
trip to my favorite lake. Some people will
question you about keeping a legally caught
fish to eat for supper, some will try to
shame your sucess for keeping legally caught
fish to mount. You have now accomplished
something that most fishers can only dream
about. You shouldnt have to take any guff
about it.
------------------
Curt Quesnell
NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

Curt, the good eaters will always be there and the lake will support that class for a long time. But catching many large fish is what makes a trip, so take a picture and send it back. I see no problem in taking a limit to eat its our right. Just keep the big ones out there for the next weekend.

Thanks Curt! Les Lemm is a friend of mine and a terrific guide. JZ I have been fishing for 20 years obeying all fishing regulations and I am not the type of fisherman who goes fishing just to fill my freezer, I fish because I love to and I practice catch and release just like you. I have been waiting to catch a 10+ pound walleye for all of those 20 years to put on the wall. I don't see any harm keeping a fish that has eluded you for 20 years. From this point on I probably won't keep any more walleyes for the wall, I have accomplished a goal that I set for myself. As for downrigging I know it is not the same as traditional fishing, but you still have to play and fight the fish before you get it in the boat, there was many big fish we had on but never landed. It is luck who happens to grab the rod but Les put us on big fish the entire weekend so we all had a turn on catching big fish. All the big fish went back except for the four our group kept and a few eaters.

Pop ups have increased for me for a while now. Timed to cover my usual taps about the time I would tap.

So there is a boat on a friend's property, has been there for about 4 years, with no contact from owner, and she is unreachable. It was last registered in 2020. Is there any way for him to make it his, legally?

I'm getting a lot of popups adds. Just wondering if it's just my computer or is every one getting them?

Birds at home have been quiet and out of sight. Not sure where they went. Last year they wouldn’t respond to calls - until they did. But that will be common until the girls quit being friendly.

I've seen about 60 turkeys in 1.5 days of hunting thus far. Unfortunately they are not responding to calls or decoys and the only birds that have walked within range are hens. It's just a waiting game now. Deer hunting for turkeys, hoping a legal one walks past before I have to quit in a few days...

A bunch of webcams available these days to see progress as well: https://lakevermilionresorts.com/webcams/ Looks to be pulling away from shore. I expect ice out between next Friday and Sunday based on temps in the forecast. Some sun and then some wind would get it going quickly.

But wait Meg, there's more! Anyway, do you like fishing? Trolling's kind of fun! 🤭

Well lol, Google is your friend! 🤭 Yes, the 2012 movie "Loon Lake" was filmed in Minnesota. Specifically, it was shot in southwest Minnesota, with locations including Round Lake, Pioneer Village, and Jackson County. The film is also based on a local legend from southwest Minnesota about a witch who lived by Loon Lake.

Well indeed there is a movie and the trailer will help you near down the 25 lakes a lot by just checking into the Loon Lakes in Southwest, MN. Should be easy now. Have fun. Eager to escape the grief and nightmares of the city, Louis Olsen travels to Southwest Minnesota, seeking the peace of the rural countryside. When he accidentally disturbs the grave of a supposed local 'witch' Mary Jane Terlinden, what began as a peaceful reprieve unravels into a haunting nightmare from which Louis cannot escape - but is it all just in his head?

Great. That's usually a good sign for ice break-up.
