How is the crappie fishing in Ceder? This is the one close to New Prague right? and if anyone knows anything about if tip-ups work out there it would be helpful thanks!

Posted

Yeah this is the lake near New Prague, and the crappies usually bight on the opposite end of the lake from the old access in about 11-14FT of water. Be sure to use a feeler bobber. Also, if you find the edge where it drops out there set a tip up there for northerns, skis and eyes. GL and I am still lookin for info why everyone is eye fishin??

My dad and brother have shantys on Cedar on the south end. Some eyes at night with a few decent crappies showing up. I've been out there three times this winter and threw all the fish back. I used to put my sleeper out there two and tree years ago. Used to catch lots of nice eyes early and then it would slow as the ice thickened. Used to live out there actually! Biggest eye 9lbs. 29 inches same winter my brother picked up a fat 8.5lbs. 26.5 incher. Winter after a 7 pounder was the biggest. Heard of 10-12 pounders being caught in the lake though. Just watch out for theifs out on that lake!

Yeah, I used to fish that lake all the time, used to catch a couple eyes out there early and then it would slow as the ice thickened. Catch a ton of sunnies and gills out there but aint been out there since early ice this year. Caught 3 eyes on twin and had about 10 walters on. Later this year, after the eye season is over I will go to ceader and slay the gills wink.gif lol, later yall and bye the way I aint gonna keep my sleeper out there cause of the robbers. later and thanks, keep postin.

I got broke into on Cedar three winters back. There was an electric auger in there as well as a Craftsman tool set and of course the furnace and oven that would be harder to steal. They rumidged through my couch broke my door knob and left with nothing. My buddies shanty has been busted in on every lake in Scott County. Now he takes it with him when he leaves.
Did any of you guys get in on any of the Pepin bite earlier this winter?

Posted

Yeah I am scared of that lake for that reason. And no i didn't get in on any of that pepin bight but I talked to a guy that did, he said that they always catch the eyes there but this year was awesome.
Thanks and keep postin

My buddy and I did, two limits in 5 hours two 19 inchers. Then two weeks later same holes 5 small eyes in 3 hours. Now everyone has packed up and left the lake. Good early bite but lousy as winter progresses. 8 feet deen in one small area by the boat landing. Know of any decent eyes biting around that area?

I aint been out there since EARLY ice I mean really early ice, I caught 2 eyes in 5' of water by the shore on the old access and then one 4 inch crappie out there too. I am plannin on headin out there when the eye season is over and hope to find my secret 'hole' out there straight off the old landin. I catch a ton of sunnies and perch there. last year I limited out on sunnies there like 5 or 6 times. Good luck yall. And keep on a postin for this forum will tell me when I should hit my 'home' lake. wink.gif thanks yall

Last winter was very good for quality sized sunfish. Also some nice perch show up but usually towards the later part of the season. The lake is good early for eyes every year it seems.
Was out on Spring Lake a couple weeks back three tiny crappies in a day and a half. We fished the same area by buddy and I did very well the year before.
