WOW what a tournament. I had a great time. The weather was great, very little wind, a great partner and we caught some nice fish.
There was a lot of “what if” and “if only we had” statements flying around the awards meeting. The no cull rule added a whole other level to the tournament strategy. It seemed like everyone I talked to had released some fish they now wish they would have kept and kept some fish they should have released. Hindsight is 20:20!!!
My teammate Brian and I had a strategy of nothing under 24” before noon and after that the goal was the simply get the four fish. We caught a nice one early in the day and put it in the well. A little later my partner caught a 22” and after a brief discussion of our plan…back it went. After nearly 2 hours without a fish we caught another 22”….time?? 11:50 am. After a lengthy discussion I convinced my partner that if we would keep this fish at 12:00, we should also keep it at 11:50. This was immediately followed @ 12:00 with a 24” and 12:10 with a 26”. Both were released. (I think I seen Widetrack cry) We also released a 16” and a 14”, looking for a pair of 18-19 inchers for the slot fish. Fishing hard all day on Lake of the Woods 2 walleyes 18 or 19 inches shouldn’t be any trouble.. right?? Wrong!!! We only weighed in 2 fish. Oh well... Live and learn. I still had a great time and look forward to next year.
Scarface:
With a 29.5 in our well we were 1 bite away from winning. It was indeed painful
to watch someone else pull up on our spot and land those fish. I thought sure
the boat registration would be someone from Nebraska.
Walleyebuster:
Your streak is alive and well buddy! Thanks for fishing with a grumpy old bugger like me. 2 days of fishing and he catches a 26.5, 27, 29, 29.5. You are a heck of a fisherman. We made it through the Bermuda triangle twice with only your watch stopping, not bad!
Ripper:
Thanks for the visit the other day, it was a pleasure to meet you, and your dad. Congrats on finishing in the money!
Fisky:
Nice to get a chance to catch up with you. Sorry I had to cut our visit short, but my boy passed out, and needed attention fast. Thought I would explain why I just took off running like that...
Tuffboy:
Thanks for hosting the party again, it was a hoot as always... Good food, good company, lots of laughs.
Conway, Wade:
Thanks for putting on a great tournament. It was organized and run very well.

Widetrack,
Nebraskans?!?! You could have called us N. Dakotan's and that would have hurt badly enough. We may have made some poor decisions, but at least we had decisions to make.
Anyhow, it seems as though we already may have a side bet established in principle for next year. Are you in?

Big Easy:
I put a big juicy bait out there, and look what happened. You bit like a northern hitting a daredevil...
Nice to see you signed up.
I'll side bet you any day, any species, any corner of the lake!

The Tourney was indeed a blast again this year, maybe a bit to calm though? We could'nt pop a big one, lots of 21's and 22's though! Funny cause I fished the same waypoints that I fished on the Wednesday before the tourney and that day we got plenty of hawgs out of there. Oh well, thats fishing! Thanks to Conway and the crew for a job well done once again.
WT, hope little WT's okay? Did'nt realize it was a kid, especially your kid. I figured it was an older person and you were helping out. Would have posted sooner but my keyboard went to cyberheaven last week and I did'nt pick up a new one till today....A good excuse to hit GFKS tackle shopping it was! 6 days without the internet....WOW!
Fisky

I have been waiting to see the complete results of the fishing tournament. Is this information available?

Kingfisher: Wade said they would post the results on their web site when I talked with him on Monday after the tournement but I see that hasn't happened yet. They have the results at the store or they will fax them if you sweat talk them a little.
There’s critters out and about. Get yourself some cellular trail cams and you’ll see.

It wouldn't be the first time I've heard the USS Skunked Again breaking ice! I left this morning, the rain really did a number to the ice. I'll bet the Partridge River will be open by the weekend.

My yard is pretty open, but narrow. I think I'll be fine with reception in the areas I'm thinking. I try to keep the hill somewhat natural, but my wife wants to see the lake better. The video's I've watched, they have topped the trees and mounted the dish. I would this the swaying would affect the signal. Does Starlink help you with using WiFi for calling? My T-Mobile service sux at the cabin. Did you bury your cable?

I'm on the wide part of the channel going in to Black Bay. We won't see Paul B. For years.

Welcome back. Wow it's been since 2018 it looks like. Did you ever "I'm tightening up my footprint and want to build on my Bozeman lot on the Gallatin"? 😏

You're probably right. This isn't official since I've already lost, but I'll make my supplemental guess for May 6th since it's still open. 😄 As long as I can snake my way along the shore and/or plow through some dark ice on the 8th, I'll be happy. I love aluminum boats!

For all of my "problems" with getting a clear signal it's worth it. I can spend more time at the lake because I can work during the day and play or get things done at night. Toss in that I can record and watch a football/hockey/basketball game when I'm done at the end of the day....priceless. Like your place, our property is more natural and I was worried about having to cut down a bunch of trees. I like that people have to get up close to see our place from the lake through the trees. Luckily I didn't have to do much to get enough a signal that works for me. If I needed to be on video calls, I probably would run the dish down to the shore to get a better view of the sky. BTW - the main problem with mounting the dish on a tree is that the tree still has a canopy that will block the signal. The best option would be to top a tree and then mount it on the clear-cut top.
