I'm sure you guys get questions like this all of the time. I'm not looking for any huge information, but I am curious on what I need to do between now and in two weeks when I leave. It's my first summer fishing here in MN, and I'm looking to make my first visit up your way. I've heard many good things.
I'm wondering what lake map section I should be buying if I am staying at Zippel Bay State Park. I'll be using a 16' alumnacraft with a 20 horse on the back. Also curious as to what spots would at least get me some action and hopefully a few good days of fishing.
Like I said I have never been up that way so any basic information would be very grateful.
I'm not a new beginner at the whole fishing thing by any means, just really big lakes like LOTW. Thanks for any help guys.

This is the kind of stuff that makes this website so very helpful.
Versus

THE REEFS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LAKE, GET THE SOUTHWEST SECTION FOR THE MAP. SPINNERS CRAWLER HARNESSES WITH HEAVY BOTTOM BOUNCERS, HAMMERED GOLD OR FIRETIGER, CHANGE COLORS OFTEN. IF WIND IS LITE YOUR BOAT SHOULD DO.
REEFS: ARNESENS, GULL ROCK, ARCHIES, 12 MILE,
16 MILE.

Versus,
A buddy of mine has been fishing Zipple
just about every weekend. Patience has been
important along with some versatility.
Dont be afraid to pull some crankbaits if
the spinner aint workin'. 5 to 15 feet deep
water and if the crank is halfway to the
bottom it seems to be enough.
Watch for schools of bait fish on your electronics and pull right through em.
Vary your speed until you find something that works.
Zipples "hot spots" are the TREES and THE
FIELD. Go left once you get out on the lake
and you will find both spots.
Again be patient it might take all day (but
what else are you gonna do). You will get
nicer fish with the cranks
------------------
Curt Quesnell
NorthCountry Outdoors Radio
[This message has been edited by curt quesnell (edited 07-10-2003).]
[This message has been edited by curt quesnell (edited 07-10-2003).]
Versus -
If you own a GPS, the latest version of the hotspots map has coordinates for most of the main reefs + a number of other spots.
We fished the Zippel area a few weeks ago. Although we caught some decent numbers there, the better quality fish were coming from the midlake reefs. If the seas are rough, you can easily trailer your boat over to Long Point or Arneson's, which will put you much closer to the reef action.
Good fishin'

Hey guys. Thanks for the information. I'm going to go out and get that map this weekend. Probably check it out and see what you are talking about. Landed a GPS from my old man for the trip. I'm going to try to get the training wheels off the GPS before I get up there. I'll check back with ya in a couple of weeks here before we head up your way.

Thanks for the info guys.

Versus

Pop ups have increased for me for a while now. Timed to cover my usual taps about the time I would tap.

So there is a boat on a friend's property, has been there for about 4 years, with no contact from owner, and she is unreachable. It was last registered in 2020. Is there any way for him to make it his, legally?

I'm getting a lot of popups adds. Just wondering if it's just my computer or is every one getting them?

Birds at home have been quiet and out of sight. Not sure where they went. Last year they wouldn’t respond to calls - until they did. But that will be common until the girls quit being friendly.

I've seen about 60 turkeys in 1.5 days of hunting thus far. Unfortunately they are not responding to calls or decoys and the only birds that have walked within range are hens. It's just a waiting game now. Deer hunting for turkeys, hoping a legal one walks past before I have to quit in a few days...

A bunch of webcams available these days to see progress as well: https://lakevermilionresorts.com/webcams/ Looks to be pulling away from shore. I expect ice out between next Friday and Sunday based on temps in the forecast. Some sun and then some wind would get it going quickly.

But wait Meg, there's more! Anyway, do you like fishing? Trolling's kind of fun! 🤭

Well lol, Google is your friend! 🤭 Yes, the 2012 movie "Loon Lake" was filmed in Minnesota. Specifically, it was shot in southwest Minnesota, with locations including Round Lake, Pioneer Village, and Jackson County. The film is also based on a local legend from southwest Minnesota about a witch who lived by Loon Lake.

Well indeed there is a movie and the trailer will help you near down the 25 lakes a lot by just checking into the Loon Lakes in Southwest, MN. Should be easy now. Have fun. Eager to escape the grief and nightmares of the city, Louis Olsen travels to Southwest Minnesota, seeking the peace of the rural countryside. When he accidentally disturbs the grave of a supposed local 'witch' Mary Jane Terlinden, what began as a peaceful reprieve unravels into a haunting nightmare from which Louis cannot escape - but is it all just in his head?

Great. That's usually a good sign for ice break-up.
