Does anyone else getting upset with the people, including several charter Captains, who disregard the "No Wake Zone" buoys in the Rainy River in front of the resorts?? Just this last weekend I moored my boat toward the point at Adrian's additional dockage. Several times while I was trying to unload my boat, several boats flew thru causing a wake that bounced my boat all over the place. They even caused a houseboat to sink by Wheelers Point Resort. You would think more people would have respect for other's property. What we need is a DNR or Sheriff to sit at the landing and get some boat numbers, then go over and present them with a citation, or mail them one. If they sit on the river everyone will slow down while they are there and then in their absence keep doing it. I for one am tired of the banging my boat is taking, even though I try to tie it up properly. Twice this weekend I founds my boat aground in the shallow water of the front of the slip. Lets hear from some of you others too, and maybe we can get some action on this problem....Kaz

Kaz, same problem on the river in Warroad. Not the "big Boats". but 16 to 20 footers.

Hello John - would it be possible for you to get out your digital camera and take a few pictures of the boats they should either have registration #'s or mabey the logo from the resorts. How are you doing up there? Is the lake still really low? I dont know if I will be able to make it up there for a week this year before ice fishing. Too Busy possibly a weekend in August with mom & dad.
I hope there is something you can do soon.
Keep Smiling.

I talked with the Sheriff today and he said that the bouys are not enforceable. They are there for more of a suggestion. To be able to enforce them they would have to have a community meeting and have agreement with the property owners. This would have to involve the Canadian side of the river as well or people would just cruise along the Canada side. They are there for ease of loading boats and for erosion. DNR may be able to enforce from an erosion standpoint though. Wheeler's Point has lost about 14' of shoreline in the past 7 yeards alone according to Dallas Block the LOW county sheriff.

Hogeye: Thanks for trying to get some help on the situation. I thought the Sheriff may have a Water Patrol group like they have eleswhere in the state. I guess there hasn't been a accident yet, "God Forbid" before it reaches an point important enough to take action. To bad, as this could cause a serious injury.....Kaz
------------------
KAZ

They do have a water patrol, or they did. I've seen them on the water numerous times. 21 foot Warrior with a welded radar arch and radome. I see the boat parked at what must be one of the deputies homes just east of Baudette. I've been checked by CO's riding with a deputy in this boat.
When I was fishing with some of the PWT boys in May, they were berthed at Wheelers and Rick Mclaughlins Targa 2000 was swamped and sank one nite, we figured it was probably the boat wakes.
Fisky
[This message has been edited by fiskyknut (edited 07-02-2003).]

I called our sheriff; he states that there is nothing he can do and he is not willing to even make a presence on the water to try and help. We have had or seen 3 boats sunk, 1 damaged, and several people knocked off their feet trying to climb from their boat to the docks between 4pm and 5:30pm. Compliance with the signs and the buoys is less than 30%.

Ya, 120.00 sux. I have Access Broadband, they just raised their rate from 50.00 to 75.00. I'm lucky to get 3 to 5 mbts up or down, sometimes I'll get better. In fairness to them, they have been great trying to respond to my needs, but just can't improve my service. They said that they doubt I'll ever be able to stream a Wild game. I just purchased a new streaming box and it buffers none stop. With the new streaming box and the referral discount, I'll be able to cancel Sling, so, I'll save about 10.00 on my monthly bill. That's what I told my wife 😀 it's true...

That's a better price than when I bought a few years ago. I pulled the giant box across the ice on an old Radio Flyer sled late winter. Good luck. You'll enjoy Starlink, except for paying the bill. Mine was originally $100/mo, then $110/mo, then they said I was in a low usage area so they dropped my bill to $90/mo for the last two years. I just got a letter a month or so ago saying that we are now in a "high usage" area so they raised it to $120/mo.

I did the app thing. The best place is the middle of my yard and that's not going to happen. I have a tripod stand and a "J" type stand. I've also looked at trimming some trees for a better view of the sky. Once I get it, I'll have to try different areas. Maybe I'll have to hire a guy to climb my tree and install it- I've seen YouTube videos on that. Middle of my roof looks to be somewhat clear, but I don't like to put holes in the shingles. Plus, it's a 12/12 pitch and I don't have Velcro shoes. If anyone is looking to buy Starlink, it's on sale till 4/30 at $159.00. If you do buy it, I can give to a referral code and we'll both get a free month.

With the current conditions and weather forecast I would still stick to Sunday, May 4th. I almost guarantee Vermilion will be ice-free by the opener on May 10th. Very likely someone on the list will have the correct date.

Black Bay began opening yesterday afternoon. I could see ice moving around in the middle.

I've got it too. It works great if you can get a clear view of the sky, works decent if there are blockages. I had to take down two trees and still have branches that reach out and interrupt. Some people have their dish mounted on shore which probably helps a lot. You can download the Starlink app and then walk around your property. It will assess any spot to see if you'll get enough coverage.

I've seen them at the Cub in Minnetonka and just a few weeks ago, the Cub in Chanhassen. The little smelt, smaller than sardines.
