There has been a rule change in the Streiff fishing tournament that you need to be aware of. Conway has been negotiating for days with the DNR and he was able to change their minds. Each team will be able to weigh in 2 fish over 19.5 inches, four fish limit with no culling. Deadline for sign up is July 6th.

Fisky:
You will have to fish until at least 09:45 now to get that second big one!
Tuffboy:
Side bet on getting out to the spot first?
Walleyebuster:
Learn to tie a knot would ya?
Were in.
[This message has been edited by widetrack (edited 07-01-2003).]

Yepper WT, this will change my game plan a little. Instead of 14#'s and beers and burgers at noon, it will now be 17.5#'s and lunch will have to be delayed until 12:45!
I'm still leery of the cull issue brought forth a while back when we had that other thread going on. My planned partner is very undecided on entering still. Hopefully this 2 over bit will change his mind into participating.
Good luck to you all, hope to be there myself.
Fisky

Depending on weather,
I'd say it will take 20-21 lbs to win.
The 2 over will help the cull issue... I'm glad they made the change.
[This message has been edited by widetrack (edited 07-01-2003).]

Widetrack,
Tell me what spot you want to get to? You know what happened last year.
What do you think of the calcutta? Any predictions on the price tags?

Tuffboy:
If you remember right, you had a 1/2 hour head start last year...
I'm only racing if it's flat, I'm keeping the boat in one piece this year.
Calcutta:
Team tuffboy = $1000
Team 2Dogs = $20

WT
I am keeping my boat in one piece too. The way the wind has been blowing, we will be lucky to travel 40mph.
We aren't worth that much????

WT,
I tied snells last night and tested them all. They are things of beauty.

I think it is shame the DNR folded on the one walleye over 19.5" rule. Why should tournament participants be given special treatment? If you have ever had the misfortune to be fishing a lake when these so-called "fishermen' show up , you know that they already believe that the normal rules don't apply.
The Ordinator

Well lets see, the normal limit on LOTW is 6 per day with only 1 allowed over 19.5 inches per person. In this tournament there are two anglers per team and each team is ONLY allowed 4 fish TOTAL, with 2 of these allowed to be over 19.5 inches. I don't see any special treatment with that ruling. As for your "so called fisherman" line, the majority of the teams are locals {probably 9 out of 10} and yes the majority if not all abide by the "normal" rules, and some extraordinary rules on top of those normal rules. I don't see where you are coming from? I reckon you're just anti-tournament....To each his own.
Best Regards....fiskyknut

Ordinator,
Welcome to the Lake of the Woods forum.
Congratulations on your first post.
Too bad you are so far off base.
According
to the organizers, the DNR has already put
a "special" low limit into effect for all
entering the contest (4 fish not 12). The
2 big fish rule applies to everyone with
2 people in the boat, not just contest fishers.
You do sound like you might be anti tourney
and if you are that is fine. I am sure we
can find some common ground to talk about.
We dont all agree on everything, but the
phrase "think first, then type" comes to mind
Again, welcome
Where are you from? How often do you fish
LOW? What are your favorite areas?

------------------
Curt Quesnell
NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

There’s critters out and about. Get yourself some cellular trail cams and you’ll see.

It wouldn't be the first time I've heard the USS Skunked Again breaking ice! I left this morning, the rain really did a number to the ice. I'll bet the Partridge River will be open by the weekend.

My yard is pretty open, but narrow. I think I'll be fine with reception in the areas I'm thinking. I try to keep the hill somewhat natural, but my wife wants to see the lake better. The video's I've watched, they have topped the trees and mounted the dish. I would this the swaying would affect the signal. Does Starlink help you with using WiFi for calling? My T-Mobile service sux at the cabin. Did you bury your cable?

I'm on the wide part of the channel going in to Black Bay. We won't see Paul B. For years.

Welcome back. Wow it's been since 2018 it looks like. Did you ever "I'm tightening up my footprint and want to build on my Bozeman lot on the Gallatin"? 😏

You're probably right. This isn't official since I've already lost, but I'll make my supplemental guess for May 6th since it's still open. 😄 As long as I can snake my way along the shore and/or plow through some dark ice on the 8th, I'll be happy. I love aluminum boats!

For all of my "problems" with getting a clear signal it's worth it. I can spend more time at the lake because I can work during the day and play or get things done at night. Toss in that I can record and watch a football/hockey/basketball game when I'm done at the end of the day....priceless. Like your place, our property is more natural and I was worried about having to cut down a bunch of trees. I like that people have to get up close to see our place from the lake through the trees. Luckily I didn't have to do much to get enough a signal that works for me. If I needed to be on video calls, I probably would run the dish down to the shore to get a better view of the sky. BTW - the main problem with mounting the dish on a tree is that the tree still has a canopy that will block the signal. The best option would be to top a tree and then mount it on the clear-cut top.
