I was told by an old timer, keep your plugs 1-5 feet off the bottom. Is this the general rule? How far back from the ball? Depending on crank running depth? I've done well in the past but always looking for additional tips. Thanks in advance

Pounder,<P>I usually run the ball up 5 feet. Deep Divers<BR>run 8-10 feet behind the ball, Shallow Runners 15 feet back.<P>This year I will run one ball up about 10 <BR>feet off the bottom maybe even 15 feet if I<BR>see suspended fish.<P>Also I will pull a big spinner with a Berkley<BR>"GULP" crawler on one of the lines.<P>What are you doin with your riggers?<P><P>------------------<BR>Curt Quesnell<BR>NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

Hey Curt. 2-3 seasons ago I ran back about 50 feet with stick baits (mainly husky jerk-baits)keeping them 1-2 feet off the bottom and did real well. Last year I shortend up to about 10 feet with deeper divers (mainly shad raps)and I didn't do as well. I did run some jointed raps up higher (22 ft) and caught some larger fish. I'm going to use more lead core and snap weights on the big planner boards this year to spread things out. Have used the big boards a lot fishing the Bass Islands on Lake Erie and have it down good.
