Outdoor Minnesota Deer Photo's

I like how you positioned the buck so you were looking at the good end of the deer

I think that positioning makes the shot great, too. I'm just guessing . . . could have been an issue of load distribution in the canoe that put the deer in the position it's in. smile

no kidding. I've been hunting for 7 years now and I have yet to harvest a worthy buck ( i say worthy b/c I shot a unicorn buck that only had one antler about 6 in. long and as skinny as a pencil. I thought it was a big doe and decided to shoot. When I got out of my stand I was a bit suprised when I went in for the gut job!!). Tell her congrats and hopefully we have another woman hunter in the woods.

Great to see the genuine happiness in her face, she's hooked for good now and that's a good thing !Not criticizing the canoe guy, I know it was hot and u shouldn't get shot at but I'd have a blaze orange coat on or at least hung high or very visual in the canoe, in my area I'd feel a bit afraid even with the orange hat on. Great buck and photo, my favorite for sure thus far posted ! smile

He's wearing his blaze vest under the life jacket. Probably could have put it over top, but he at least had it on. In some areas, I am sure he would be fine. In fact, his post talks about not seeing other hunters.

I agree, one of the coolest pics so far.

Schwanny, congrats to your niece.

Thanks for the compliments! Musky is right, I should have had more orange on. I never even thought about it when I put my life jacket on, apparantly my fear of drowning outweighed my fear of getting shot! Next time I'll be sure to throw an oversized hooded sweathshirt over everything.

Trigger, congrats on both your and your dad's bucks. They both are beautiful.

Congrats to everyone who posted a picture. There isn't a deer on here that isn't a trophy! Lets keep them coming!

I passed on a 6 pointer about 8am on Sunday and 45 minutes later this guy came in chasing a doe.

SE Minnesota shotgun. Mossberg 930. Winchester 2 3/4 Sabot. 1 shot and he dropped 20 yards from where he was hit.

My first Minnesota buck!

Great deer everybody.

Here is my buck. I already filled my doe tag during archery, so with a freezer full of meat and no job, I had all season to look for a big boy. He had other ideas and I was done in 25 minutes...o well!

I saw this deer the night before opener and knew he was a good 10. He was chasing a doe opening morning and they ran smack into another guy from my camp who was walking out to his stand late. His presence turned them around back into the woodlot I was hunting, and came crashing through at 6:55 am. I bleated, he stopped, and dropped him where he stood with a double lung shot.

10 point(one broken tine but still scorable), 17" inside spread, 168 lbs field dressed. 60 yard shot, .270 WSM. Itasca County, Nov 7.

FYI I stripped off some of my orange for the pic/drag.

Good Luck to those still hunting!

Not what I envisoned taking, but im content with him. 10 points, 20 inch inside spread and field dressed at 218 lbs. nice mass throughout, just not a lot of length on him.

he had a 30 inch neck actually. I would say I saw 4 or 5 bigger , and they were all 8 points!! I missed the biggest one, woulda scored around 160, and I hit and lost a 140 inch 8 as well. I also had a 130 inch 8 point with a good drop tine at 35 yards 3 days before i shot this one, but couldnt get a shot! he was a fighter though, ripped ear, gashes on the back of his neck in a few places, 2 tine holes on his face, and an old busted up ankle!!! They are guessing 5 years old or more.

I am guessing you are about 6' tall, and you like small next to that thing. His head (without the head gear) is massive

Shed, those are darn nice deer. As we've seen these last several years, they can get to be big-time bruisers cruising around the city of Duluth and Hermantown and eating people's gardens.

Congrats on another most excellent animal!

BC, I was born green and gold and that's just the way it is. smilesmile

I took my cousin to my stand last night where I saw the big . He saw one small doe all week. I sent him to my stand and walked over to my other one about 1/4 mile a way on the other side of the alfalfa field. Right away a decent buck ran across the field. I think it smelled my cousing and took off. I was party hunting and I told him that I was only going to use his tag if it was the big guy that I saw last week, so I passed on the other buck, it wasn't the big guy. At dusk, I saw a big bodied deer heading tawards him, a minute later, I heard three shots. The deer died standing under his stand. He was the big dog I had been chasing this falls. He never hunts this area and I thought I would be nice and take him with me where I bow hunt.

Trigger you are the man for that. It takes a big person to allow someone to hunt there area. I commend you on that.

To all that shot buck GREAT JOB. I love the kid pic's and all the smiling faces.

I have been out slug hunting for a total of 6 hours. I have passed on 7 does (no permit) and two small bucks. I look at it this way, I want meat but I am going to SD for the late season MZ hunt and can get two does there so I am only going to shoot a big one when I do go out but I have been working in the field now and might not even make it out again. But there is always next year. (even though it is killing me not to go out!!!)

Good job everyone.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
