New rule for this year is as follows.
4 fish limit. No culling. 4 fish in the boat, and you are done for the day.
I really feel this is going to take away from what was a great tournament.
I hate to say it, but there will be cheating going on. (culling)
They claim that nobody wants the fish... I find that hard to believe myself.
If you fish this tournament and have concerns with this, please contact them. I have.

WHAT!!! This is not good news, what is Conway and the crew thinking. Perhaps the DNR had something to do with it? This may keep me from even fishing this tourney at all this year. WT I think your assumption that a lttle underhandedness may go on is correct. Why not let the contestants keep their own fish if nothing else? My Mom is management for a few of retirement homes in Roseau co., I'm gonna ring her 'cause I'm certain she'd take some, if not all, for her residents. Back before the flood when Eventide was open I'd occasionally drop a bag of fillets off for the seniors and they loved it. I would get a nice letter a week or so later signed by the folks with notes saying how much they enjoyed it and how it brought back memories of the "old days" for them!
I really think the organizers of this most fun tourney should rethink this change. I was planning on getting first place this year too!
I'm getting on the phone here shortly!

Fisky:
I believe the DNR permit only states that the fish need to be donated.
I'm very disappointed with this new rule.
I don't beleive I'm going to fish the tournament unless the rule is modified/changed.
A bunch of us have offered up suggestions, but they don't seem to want to listen.
So far they have said I was the only one to complain.
Well I will be stoping in there on my way to mow at my trailerhouse later today or tomorrow to give them my 2 cents. Doubtfull I'll fish it either with that change, be way too easy for some to break the rules, most would'nt, but some would being it's a money tourney! Spoke with my Mom and she's gonna get on the phone with some places that would possibly want some, and she said they could take some also. She told me no one has contacted her regarding taking any. I really like this tourney so I am quite bummed to hear this. The guy I'm gonna fish with has already put in to take thur and fri off to prefish....not that we really need to, haha right!
Fisky
WT, how goes it on the starter pond anyways?

Fisky:
The starter pond has actually been sort of hit and miss for a lot of people lately.
I lucked out and found some very active fish this past weekend, but did a heck of a lot of searching.
Sounds like the rock bite is the place to be.
Wonder if the shallow water has anything to do with it being a little early... There is always fish out on the rocks though I guess...

WT, remember where I told you I fished during the Streiff tourney last year? Fishing has been pretty darn good there the last couple of times I was up there, starting to see alot of charter boats up there too. I spose you'll be a ski'n pretty soon eh? Heard a couple decent reports off of 5-mile this past few days from a couple folks that were out there also.

Well guys, this is how I understand it. Since it is a two person team, you can have 12 fish in your livewell. While you only weigh 4 fish, you can have the 12(if you can get that many) Am I right or wrong on this? Maybe someone should call and ask Conway??

------------------
"Power? Fame? Prestige? Nah, I'd rather be fishing"

Widetrack and Fisky,
I spoke to Wade and the DNR sets the parameters for fish limits and how they are handled as part of the permit. I am assuming if they didn't follow the guidelines they would be subject to penalties.
I was planning on winning this year too...

Fisky, or W.t.
Where can a person find out about the rules for the Strieff Tourny?

Posted

WT,
Did you fish the Snaghole this past weekend? We spent some time there and on the "Bar" about 1.5 miles south of the north end (if that makes sense). We did well along the edges of the weedbeds....which are now, for the most part, in too shallow of water. We really spanked 'em on Saturday afternoon with crawlers in these two places. Talked to others that fished the "starter pond" that did not have our luck.

Gill:
For the most part I found most of our fish around the stoney point area...
Caught some around the birch point area also.
Snaghole was a little too crowded for my liking.
[This message has been edited by widetrack (edited 06-12-2003).]

I was reading the rules today and It seems
that 4 fish is it! NO LIVEWELL SORTING (whats
that mean). I was gonna call em but I figured
the phone might be busy since most got the
info in the mail today or yesterday.
It makes for more decision makeing, thats for
sure.
I wont be critical of the organizers or the
rules they make as long as they enforce them
the same for everyone.
Last year, the last mile was a no wake zone
that we allowed the time for so we could
follow the law and the rule of no wake in
the Warroad River. Several teams did not
allow the time and were very nearly "on plane" heading for the weigh-in that they
would not make without breaking both rules
and law. Some were top teams and nothing
was said or done about it.......We didnt have
the right fish to place so it didnt matter
but it kinda [PoorWordUsage] me off that rules that
we went over in the meeting were tossed aside
so easily.
Plan on entering to take another beating or
figure out how to place higher than the
middle of the pack.
See you all there
------------------
Curt Quesnell
NorthCountry Outdoors Radio

Glutton for punishment eh Curt?!!!! Iffin I remember right you and Justin were fairly close to where we were and we did pretty well getting 6th. I think you guys were about 1.5 miles from us, mighta been another maroon Ranger though? As is the norm for fun fishing, that luck factor comes into play in a tournament too. My stradegy this year will be tailpiping old WT!!! hehehe!
Fisky
[This message has been edited by fiskyknut (edited 06-12-2003).]

Fisky:
Who you calling old?
I think I'll be passing this year, unless my partner really, really wants to go.
Anyway, how did you plan on keeping up?
Tow rope! You'll have to slow down though!
fisky

In my opinion, there will be more luck in winning than skill. Because of 3 slot fish it will be very difficult to make up any weight. It is a lot more difficult to catch 5 fish close to 19.5 inches and one big one. Now one 10-11 lbr and a couple 16" fish could win it.

Posted

Yep it'll be a stradegy thing for sure. I will put a 26 inch plus in the boat by 9am, then I'm moving over to where all the fish are cookie cutter 18-20 inchers, will be very picky here only keeping fish over 18.75. We will probably be back in before noon with at least 14 pounds for our 4 fish. Good luck to the rest of the pack!!!
Fisky

FF:
4 fish that's it... No more 12 in the box.
Tuffboy...
This was my year to win... you know it!

"{if you can get that many}", well thats never a problem! It's all about getting the good unders, and a couple a nice overs!!!
Willing to make side bets....anyone??? LOL!
Regards....Fisky
Rockroll, you could call Streiff's and they'd mail you one. I'll be stopping in there today or tomorrow and will grab them and post here, unless someone else can sooner.
[This message has been edited by fiskyknut (edited 06-12-2003).]

FN:
My understanding is there will be a calcutta involved in the process... You just need to buy your own team in the auction...
I don't see how the DNR can restrict anything to less then the 6 entitled fish per person. Perhaps I'm wrong on that though.

FN:
26+ by 9 am...
Jeez I may need to enter this thing just to humble you a little...
smile.gif

WT,
That's my plan and I'm sticking to it! I'll be in the Main street B&G having a cheeseburger and a few buds while I wait for the rest of you guys to wander in!
Whats your big plans for the weekend Dave?
Fisky

FN:
Boy has 3 baseball games in Warroad tomorrow.
From there were heading to the starter pond, spending the rest of the weekend there.
Following weekend it's off to the Angle to froth the water for ski's.

I don't think they have fixed much

More playas bite the dust. Probably at least 5 more by the sounds of the reports. Gotta be at least the many so I can be out too!

Have faith. You can see progress and ice depth from previous years on the Eagle Docks FB page. They said 16 inches a day or so ago. A few years back they had 16 inches only a week before official ice out. 60s to even 70s next weekend. It will be gone before opener. I'm planning on docks and lifts next weekend, but I am in a small protected bay that goes out pretty early.

I noticed that too. Ow if they could friggin fix me getting over younder on my laptop!😐

We need optimism right now. The small bays haven't even opened up yet, which is typically two weeks before the big bays lose their ice. The forecast is in our favor though and I see that it's windy today, also a great sign.

Go to the DMV, see if there's a serial number on it. They should be able to title it

I moved my blind right into the middle of the field after I left this morning. It sticks out like a sore thumb on the landscape. A friend advised me to try this. We'll see if it works later. I hate the way it looks without blending in, but I have to try something else.

Im getting a ton of them also. So bad that I have to back out of the site and retry. Anyway to prevent them?

For a long time I've been getting pop-ups and error pages where I have to back page. I just thought it was the price of playing in the old sand lot! 🤔
