Pre/Post Game Minnesota Wild Banter

Was it just me or did Zidlicky look like he couldn't skate out there...flu bug?

If it weren't for the fluky bounce, we probably would have won that game in OT. The Avs gave up any forecheck after that 4th goal. The hole was too deep this time.

They looked alittle flat, I am thinking flu bug yet. I really like that Stoner Kid, looks like a solid Defenseman! I am ready for them to trade sheppard any day! Robby Earl is more poductive and puts points on the board!

Yeah, the bug's gotta be going around. They came out pretty hot in the 1st, fell flat then decided to try and dig themselves out of a 3 goal hole. I thought the officiating was questionable last night. A few of those calls were pretty bogus including the boarding call on Boogard.

Stoner played pretty well last night and I'm warming up to his play as well. He fits in the system. I'd love to see Earl pulled up for full time duty. The guy makes it happen.

the last 10 minutes of tonights game, the wild just let them have it. that was the best I have seen them play this year. great win.

Another nice win! Seemed like we had an answer for all of their goals! Very fun to watch this team play right now. Big win over the Blues considering the standings right now!

I got a little nervous towards the end though. we should have had a few more goals, some bad luck and a couple of pipes. very good win.

I agree, very fun game to watch last night. Backs gave up a couple fluke goals otherwise it would have been 4-1. They are playing excellent hockey right now. Makes you wonder how good they will be when Burns and Bouchard come back, aye?

I agree, Saturday night's game was a great one to watch. I'd love to see some guys off of the injured list after the olympic break. Sounds like Burns won't be playing for team Canada?

Hopefully they can be dominant when we get these players back! If anything it should make the players more competitive to try and stay on the roster or fight for playing time. It has been working so far! With the way the Vikings game is going, I may be flipping to the hockey game sooner than later!

A huge game for Bellanger scoring that goal just 12 seconds after it was tied up. They are finding ways to win and answering goals scored by other teams very quickly as of late! Sure helped take the sting out of the Vikings game! GO WILD!

Awesome game last night. It's nice to see the wild are capable of finding ways to win. The 2nd goal by Belanger after LA scored was a heater. That really silenced that hip LA crowd. As much as a spotty player I think Johnsson is, he's been playing very well lately and contributing on the attack.

We'll see if the Wild can continue this tonight against the Ducks. I'd love for Parros and Boogie to go at it again. Ya' gotta admire the mustache on Parros, that thing means business. GO WILD!

Time for them to bounce back tonight. Gotta stop this little skid and get a solid performance tonight!

Good game against a good team. Nice to battle back and tie it at 2 but giving up that VERY late goal in the 2nd did us in. Then going down two fairly early in the 3rd is almost impossible against a team like that. Still made it exciting though!

the wild had a lot of good scoring chances against a strong defensive team. they played good.

The Wild got spanked last night. I caught the first period before going to a game of my own and it didn't look pretty.

On a related note, where does VS. get these commentators and announcers?! The intermission report is good but the guys in the booth are a couple of knuckleheads. It makes me appreciate the games with Gorg, Greenlay,Terhaar and Darby. Now these guys have an interesting dynamic! I love hearing em' raz LaPanta about his rug.

I guess I've got nothing against the VS announcers. They are always one sided about the bigger market teams, but that's the norm.

We were great in the first period. If we would have plaed like that the whole game, we would have had a chance. Huet really kept us from getting anywhere, we probably should have had 2/3 going into the third where we decided to take a bunch of terrible penalties.

What was with Zanon? He had a terrible game last night.

boy did they play good tonight! I was at the game and the wild did everything right. It was eventfull and the wild had their legs. One of the best games i have ever been to i think.

That would have been a great one to see! Watched to last two periods of it and it was total domination. Kipper didn't look like a wall like he usually does and Iginla was all but absent. Great performance all around by the Wild last night.

Great bounce back game from the previous four losses, most of which they played ok/well but still lost. That could have take a huge toll on their confidence. It didn't look like it did.

Belanger played great last night. I loved that breakaway up close backhander off the cross bar.

That shot was awesome. It was really great and happend right in front of us. The second period was the best of the 3.

That was sure fun to watch the 3rd period. The shootout was the longest one I've ever watched, didn't it end up going to 8 or 9 shooters?

8 shooters...not as long as the NY Rangers and ??? game last year that went to 17 or 18 shooters! Still a fun one to watch though.

HUGE win tonight. Despite being out shot, we found a way to put the puck in the net. Backstrom played out of his mind and Latendresse played like a mad man. It was amazing how many bandwagon pens were in the rink tonight.

Everyone's a #87 fan I guess. Well, at least Bettman is happy.

Anyone else think Cooke should have gotten a diving penalty in the third? That guy is what's wrong with the NHL. Divers need to be taken out of the game, just like headhunters.

Huge win last night, now lets keep the ball rolling against Vancouver and the whiney, cheapshot, dive artist Burrows.

I missed the game due to having direct tv, and them not broadcasting Versus. Sounded like a good game, and backstrom was the man once again. Latendresse is playing out of his mind, what a trade that was!!!!

I agree, Cooke is a diver and I can't believe they called that but missed Nolan getting tripped in the 2nd. Also couldn't believe someone didn't pound Gonchars face in after that retaliation check on Clutterbuck.

Looking forward to the Vancouver match.

Very low, probably 2 feet lower than last year at ice out.

what do they look like this spring?
    • SkunkedAgain
I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!
    • Brianf.
Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
