Pre/Post Game Minnesota Wild Banter

Agreed! I think Havlat has about the worst plus/minus on the team.

Remember when we thought we got a player in a similar class as Gabby? Hmm, they are not even close this year. I know there is upside to Havlat, but he needs to start producing now.

It seems like he might be a guy who is great when with other greats. When he's with guys of average talent, or guys he doesn't click with, he seems like nothing special. That and he coasts around the whole game. I don't know if he needs a confidence boost or a swift kick in the...

I agree with your view's on Havlat. What a coaster! Someone teach this guy how to stop instead of skating circles all game. Last night was pretty painful to watch. Poor officiating and no team chemistry made for an ugly match. That hit that ebbett (I think?) took at the end of the game was pretty brutal. I'd like to see a fine slapped on Jovanovski for that one. It's unfortunate that a good hip check is a dying art form in the nhl lately.

No kidding, what a cheap shot. Hopefully the NHL steps up and actually does something about head hits on this one instead of just whining about it and never acting on anything.

Just watched the last couple of seconds of the game while I home over lunch, Fiddler should have gotten an instigator penalty for getting into a fight with Sheppard after Shep and Yandle started pushing each other - this is the definition of the instigator rule. The third man in gets a penalty...if it happens within the last five minutes of the game, it's a one game suspension and the coach gets a $10K fine or something like that.

Refs last night were missing a lot and "seeing" a lot. Oh well, what can you expect in Arizona when it comes to hockey.

Jovanovski got a 2 game suspension for putting a guy out for probably a month on a very dirty hit. If that hit is placed against Crosby/Malkin/Ovie/Toews etc... it would have been a lot longer.

The league needs to start putting harsher penalties on players who head hunt and kick out those who repeat (Jovanovski elbow to the head of Gabby couple yeas ago).

He should be given a minimum suspension which should extend as long as the player is out. So say 2 games plus however many the player misses

Does anyone here have Wild ticket connections? I'm looking for four lower level tickets for the 12/26 game vs St. Louis.

Sounded like a good win in a 1 - 0 game over the Avs. Seems we have their number this year! Wish the game wasn't on VS so more people, including me!, could have watched it! A couple good ones on the road coming up yet!

I watched most of it, we only have one TV and the GF wanted to watch GLEE, which is easily the worst show on TV right now...just terrible.

Overall neither team could really get sustained pressure. Backstrom made some great saves to keep us ahead and both powerplays were off. I think about 3/4 of the game was played in the neutral zone.

I don't know what it is about the Avs, but we've got them figured out this year. Now if we could only figure out teams like LA and Phoenix crazy

And CALGARY!! We never win in their facility, and it kills our playoff standings every year. Phoenix has a hot goaltender (he's on my fantasy team) and LA has some pretty good chemistry this year.

Still happy for the win. I'm sure the Avalanche are as frustrated with us as we are with Calgary, so that makes me grin a little.

I'm glad we won last night but I wish the Wild would SHOOT THE FRIGGIN PUCK MORE! 17 shots, pathetic. Good thing we have Backstrom.

Yeah, being better against Calgary would help us a lot. What do we have, 2 wins in the Saddledome? Ouch! I still have nightmares about that 5-3 loss there one or two seasons ago. Lead 3 nothing after one, lose 5-3! sick

Ya Calgary certainly has been having their way with us lately. Maybe this version of the wild will be able to find a way to beat them.

Honestly, I think if we want to have a chance, we need to step up the physicality on this team. Calgary has always pushed us around and it's showed in our record of 1-13-1 in the last 15 games played there.

1-13-1?!?! Geesh. It certainly doesn't help that a handful of our more physical guys are out with concussions.

Are concussion's the new "groin injury" of the 2009 season? I thought they were going to step up the enforcement on the serious concussion inducing hits?

the problem he has been playing on the 4th line, and a lot with boogard, so he still has to be somewhat slowed down from his injury. our top lines have done very good of late, so its hard to split up the lines.

Well, I missed a really good game last night. I hear Kipper completely robbed us of a regulation win, but at least we got two out of it. Too bad Calgary gets one too.

It was not showed because VERSUS was showing a game and wanted higher ratings on it. I listened to it on the radio...106.1FM, never knew of that station. I always listened to them on 830 when I couldn't watch them.

Sounds like it should have been about 3-0 heading into the second. That Pouls-Latendresse trade is looking like GOLD!

Well, we squeezed a win out tonight against the habs....it was a bit ugly but they can't all be zingers. The guys looked a little tuckered out.

It was great to see Earl get on the board tonight. That guy makes things happen whenever he comes up from the minors. Also nice to see Cal squeeze one in. Backstrom played a phenomenal game and really kept us in it.

The most enjoyable part of the evening was just knowing that we picked up Latendresse for Pouliot (back in the minors).....What a bargain!

That was a steal of a trade. The Habs fans kept chanting his name all game and booing whenever he touched the puck. Those fans take this a little too seriously.

I only got to see the first period since I had a broomball game last night, but they looked good in the first. Heard they slowed down a lot in the following two, but what can you expect. They've have a coast to coast swing in the last twelve days.

With the way they've been playing, it makes you wonder where they would be with their usual 9-3 start to the year instead of 3-9

That ought to be interesting for the game tonight since they are so superstitous about their equipment. In the Star Tribune article, both Boogaard and Brunette said they've been wearing the same shoulder pads since Bantams. It was good that no one was hurt though.

PierBridge, thanks for posting those. The goalie helmet is especially neat.

Should be a good game tonight. I think were 5-0 against the av's. I've always had a grudge against the av's since the days of the wild v. av's playoff series. The boy's better bust out the battle axes tonight.

Hopefully the flu that's been circulating through the locker room will be done for the season. Let's see a solid 6-0 season series against the Av's! laugh

Very low, probably 2 feet lower than last year at ice out.

what do they look like this spring?
    • SkunkedAgain
I might have missed a guess, but here are the ones that I noted:   JerkinLips – March 27th, then April 7th Brianf. – March 28th Bobberwatcher – April…. MikeG3Boat – April 10th SkunkedAgain – early April, then April 21st   Definitely a tough year for guesses, as it seemed to be a no-brainer early ice out. Then it got cold and snowed again.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!
    • Brianf.
Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.
