Here we go! Win or lose Gardy has my vote for Mgr. of the year. Look at what he has had to play all year, broken bull pen, many injuries on key players. Maur for MVP! Nathen for Rolaids reliever of the year!, Young coming around, who says Kubal can't play? Gardy know ball. Oh I almost forgot, Who all here said "Put a fork in them" I almost did but relized they are the Twins and they play in the central division.

Agreed!

While suprising in how we made the post season again. It shouldn't be any suprise at all that we are the best team in the division like last year. It is a bit disapointing to be the only major sport that has a play-off versus a tiebreaker "head to head should determine this" at least the game is the right park Tues versus last years debacle!

As always it's truely great to be a Twins Fan!

The people who in august thought the Twins would pull this off were relying on false hope. The Twins had an 8% chance to win the division early last month.

What has happened now is a rare event. Sure, we all hoped it would happen, but there is nothng wrong with being a realist. Add the fact that Morneau went down for the season.

To each his own sledneck, but I remained the same and did not care about the odds and so on. All the stats dont mean much when chemistry and desire take over. Good players playing the game right and NOT getting in to much trouble outside the world of baseball. How many Twins had a blood alcohol level of .29 as Mikey Cabrara of Detroit had on Saturday morning, and he is wondering why he is 0-fer lately. I would say none.

Do we have a chance against NY. I am sure someone will post some stats proving their point 1 way or another, but there are no stats for guts and the desire to win. I will take the chance and at least we were there, besides what a great way to say good bye to the dome. 1 more big push and maybe just maybe...............

I was a realist about it. It is a division that could be overcome and won and we are right on the edge of doing exactly that. Its simple " YES WE CAN AND YOU GOTTA BELIEVE" and game 163 is about 25 hours away.

Optimist vs Realist debate reminds me of that joke about Potential vs Realism.

Son asks his Dad what's the diff between potentially and realistically? And Dad says, go ask your Mom and then ask your sister if they would sleep with a man for $500k.

So the son returns and the father asks if he understands the diff between potential and realism.

And the son says, yep. Potentially we are sitting on a million bucks. But realistically, we're living with two sluts.

RJ Good luck to ya tomorrow, and sorry your team has some off field issues that look like they may be a factor. I would hate to see that as an excuse.

Sled, we agree again. Man this is scary as we typically do not.

My wife was saying for the past 6-8 weeks that I didn't have any faith in the Twins. I said no, I'm jusy being realistic. Yes, they did what I said they probably would never do but, it may not ever happen again. It took being the hottest team in baseball with so many out of action and Detroit also has to somewhat fall apart.

I will enjoy this ride as long as it last and simply say, thanks Twins for as fun fall ride.

Let's see. I'm pretty confident you have more talent than we do (you won 11 of 18 meetings). I'm certain you are by far the hotter team. We have a 20 year old pitching. All this [PoorWordUsage] about our Cabrerra (should he be drinking with White Sox players the night before the game? Wonder if Ozzie put them up to it?).

Isn't baseball great - we got a chance. I'd say a decent chance. Wouldn't bet too much either way, but am looking forward to it.

I am torn on this one. My 12 year old son is scheduled to play his championship playoffs in the dome this weekend for 6th grade football. If the Twins win, they dont get to play in the dome, I guess the Twins have priority. LOL! I am a huge Twins fan, and I would love to see them win the division and go to the playoffs, but for a 12 year old to play football in the dome, it would be a life time memory that he may never get a chance to do again.

So deep down, I think I am rooting for the Tigers, just so a bunch of 12 year olds can have a life time memory of playing football inside the dome, but if the Tigers can't pull it off, atleast the Twins will win the division. Its one of those win/win-lose/lose situations cry

I had the fork in them. But it's not like I lost complete faith and quit watching them, cheering for them etc. Twins fan through and through. The chances are/were not remotely in our favor. Anyways..... Wooohooo! Go Twins. I hope someone can provide some Louisiana hot sauce with my crow.

Sr IceLeaders Family

I always wait for the late season implosion by the kitties or the Chisox. We will pass the Chi in the next couple days and the kitties will self destuct on there own. Leaving the Powerhouse TWINS. Also throwing it out there, I think Crede will have a great September and all you bandwagoners will be back on the Twins and the Crede boat.

Looks Like I should have said the DELMON boat !!! wink

6th grade football? When I was in 6th grade we were not allowed to play tackle football yet? We played flag football. What I want to know is how in the world does a 6th grade football team get to play in the metrodome? The only playoffs I remember in my football career was varsity football. I think it's pretty cool that 6th graders get to play in the dome. I'm just curious more than anything because I have never heard of playoffs besides varsity football.

easy now sled......

My main question was if they didnt have the dome to fall back on in this scenario and we were to host.....you think MLB would have held up the playoffs until this monsoon passed??

I think the Twins would have got jerked around AGAIN and we would have had to play in Detroit and give up the home field advantage.

Ya back when I was in school only flag for me as well.

Most schools now have 5th and 6th grade tackle, some start in 4th now. It is more of a tournament type thing for the 6th graders, by the end of tonight we will know the brackets that will be played out this weekend at the dome, (if the Twins lose). All of the teams from the conference will be playing this weekend, each team had to pay $200 at the beginning of the season to reserve the dome for their playoffs. If the Twins win, each lower bracket team will have to travel to the higher of the bracket team to play, this will be a mess, considering they each play several games this weekend. A lower bracket team will need to travel to several different towns to play their games.

I would think they would have had a better back up plan, in case the Twins went to the playoffs?

You are right fishin58,

Myself as well except I had the Sox and Twins in a one game playoff - I'm on record on one of the posts - just got one team right though, the right one.

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st

As I get older it's really not just about sending bullets down range.  Some of it's just the workmanship of the gun and the wow factor. The other two guns I have really wanted which I'll never have now because of their price, is a 8mm Jap Nambu and 9mm German Luger.   Just thought they always looked cool!

I had a guy hit me with a lightly used 1969 BAR, he wanted $1650 with an older Leupold scope. More than I think they are worth, I made an offer, he declined end of story.   You know if you look at the old brochures, a grade II BAR sold for $250 in the late 60s, $1650 would be a good return on your investment.    Why would anybody want a 50 year old gun, they are heavy, have wood stocks, and blued metal.  I guess mainly to keep their gun safes glued to the floor. lol   You can probably buy a stainless rifle that you never have to clean, with a synthetic stock you never have to refinish, is as light as a feather, and for half as much money, perfect.   I'm too old for a youth gun, although I've shrunk enough that it would probably fit. lol   No Ruger 10/44s.   Jim
